I love colured ligs, too. Choosing different colour combos gets me looking forward to my next ortho consultation! I'm due for my first adjustment at the end of this month and I've already got some colour schemes picked out.
Have you been to the animated brace colour selector on this site? It's great and it may help you selecting the colours you want for your next visit: http://pbhs.com/ortho/braces/braces.html

Ceramic + metal since 31/03/05
Yeah, I change the colours too every time.
1st - fuschia, cobalt blue, neon green since rbg is the primary color set
2nd- pink; my sister asked for it
3rd- metallic blue
4th- red, it was valentine's day
5th- dark green, it was st. patty's day
6th- light blue, carolina had just won the tournament
Ever since the third time i've had a metal powerchain on top, and since the fourth time i've had a elastic powerchain of the same colour ligatures on bottom. My assessment so far is that the combination of rbg is awkward. And light blue stains kinda yellow in the back of the powerchain. Haven't noticed any other discolorations with the other choices.
And I'm thinking of going for a yellow/purple combination next; like purple powerchain and 4 yellow ligatures or vice versa.

Hi, I got my brackets on yesterday. When the assistant put the ligatures on she put silver on. She said that they have colored ones for kids. I wanted to get light pink or light blue on, but felt dumb asking for them since she said they were for kids. What do you guys think? Would I sound silly asking for them? Or do they make special ones for kids that are different than what they use for adults?
Braced for 7months, 4 days
Wireless since December 21, 2005 and loving it!

Manda, go ahead and ask for them. I don't see why you can't have color. My assistant showed me a color card and I got to choose. So next time you're in, get your colors - why not get pink and blue together?? That'd be fun! And who cares if you sound silly...they're your braces, and if you want to be spunky and have a little color, then that's what matters.

At my ortho it's normal for adults to get colors (I don't know, maybe not as many get them, but everyone gets the choice). They hand you the thing to choose the color from like they would to a kid. The first time they "recommended" silver, just mentioning they'd be the same color as the braces, but I just said I want the golden ones. The second time I chose blue, they asked twice whether that blue was what I wanted to make sure, but that was that.
It's not silly at all to ask for a color, go for it next time

Metal braces from March 24, 2005 until July 30, 2007. Estimate was 18-24 months, but I had them for 28 months.

Manda,
I think that the orthos automatically assume adults want their braces to be as inconspicous as possible, as probably the majority do. Little do they know that there are some of us who have found a great support network and feel empowered to break the mold!
I have had light blue and light pink and I get lots of compliments on the pink.

I always got colors...honestly I think I only had silver once and that was when I knew I was having my senior pictures done. My ortho had a keychain type thing with a stick of each color ligs on it (so you can see the actual color, not a computer print out or anything) they had soooo many colors. Probably 5 or more shades of blue alone. I had purple and green alternating once, that was pretty cool. Also had glow in the dark orange for one halloween. I never had black, white, clear, yellow or pink. Darker colors looked better on my teeth.
Even for my retainers, they asked what color. I said blue....she said "light blue, dark blue, baby blue, bright blue...?" ACK! Bright blue. Glitter? glow in the dark?? How do teenagers make those decisions? lol. I went with bright blue ("tropical blue" is the official color) no glitter or glow in the dark. It's a really pretty color.

I'm 13 and last month when my braces were put on I got silver and pearly white, thought they would look cool. I'm an IDIOT! Well, they were pretty invisible colors. I went for my first adjustment yesterday, I wanted red, white and blue but I had to have chains so I just got red and blue. I am MUCH happier with bright colors!
