Hi, Everyone!
Well, I am taking the plunge! I finally decided that I am going to fic my smile. I have had issues with my teeth for a while now, and I decided that before my wedding in August of 2010, I want to have a perfect smile
So, I had my consult today and my ortho told me 18 months -- just in time! I will be getting Damons but I am not sure of the specific type as I think they might be the only Damons they use. They are half clear/half metal. I need to use elastics to fix my bite -- not too happy about that. However, I am trying to keep my eyes on the prize. Enduring the 18 months as a tin grin will lead me to a lifetime with a great smile.
I am paying for them out of my pocket. Apparently, my insurance company does not want to pay for anyone over 18 to have braces. Awesome.
Anyway, I joined the board to just make some friends in the same situation and get questions answered, and a little support too! I'll post some pictures soon as I think I may create a "my braces story" once I have everything set.
Looking forward to meeting you all!
Newbie and getting braces at 23!

Hey!
Welcome
I am a newbie to this board as well
I am 43 and getting braces to correct TMJ symptoms.
I am symptom free for 2 years now since wearing a splint. It holds my mouth open so my jaw is in proper alignment so my jaw joint is in the right position.
Now i am wearing a palate expander. as my upper arch is more like a "v"shape but even now only 2 months later. and 4 mm apart my arch is more like a "u" shape. I have till may in the palate expander but may stop expanding in 3 weeks.
Look forward to our journey together.
Get ready for ups and downs and pain- tylenol and advil are our best friends. along with a slimmer waist- good for wedding photos and our health. Lots of time in a dentist chair. lots of questions and answers. and hopefully support from here.
Karen

Hi, Karen!
Sounds like you have been through a lot already.
When are you getting braced? I am thinking about going in on February 16, since I have off for Presidents' Day and they will have lots of openings. I also thought about a Friday, so I could get used to having them on over the weekend and head into work on Monday feeling semi-comfortable.
Also, what kind of brackets will you be getting? I am kind of nervous about the visibility of the Damons, since they aren't completely invisible, but such is life.
Anyhow, we can do it! We'll have smiles to be proud of once this is all over
