44 and just got upper and lower metal braces

#1 Post by irishlass65 »

I am blessed to work for a dentist and I am in active ortho to correct a crossbite. I also have composite material built up on two molars so I am not able to chew. Is their anyone else out there going through this, it is all new to me and just want to reach out to people to talk to.

The doc is great and tells me that he had to correct his bite the same way, it is just all too new.

Thanks Stacey

The composite material

#2 Post by tamatha2002 »

Hey Stacey,

I'm pretty sure I've got the same composite material built up on two of my molars as you do. It's blue and feels like a glob of hard candy.
I remember asking the clinical assistant... How am I supposed to eat if my teeth don't touch each other??? And she just smiled and said I'd learn how.
Well, I wasn't in pain the first day, but I couldn't eat any solids because I couldn't bite down far enough.
I got 4 teeth extracted the morning after I got my braces, so I still can't eat solids... But for different reasons now :)

So until we learn how to bite properly...

Mashed potatoes
Applesauce (there are quite a few kinds...)
Jello

Tamatha,

Thanks so much for posting, that was the same question I asked Dr Ijams and he just smiled and said the same thing!

I have started putting chunky soup in a blender and it is just fine, lots of cottage cheese, mashed potatos.

We are going to try and do this without extractions so we will see, I have to keep the composite material on for awhile and start wearing my rubber bands in a week and a half to pull me out of my crossbite. Also he put a very easy wire on me until the next adjustment, just to ease me into this.

Keep me posted and I will do the same :)

Hey irishlass!

Can you chew yet?
I'm back to eating solids... Have been since this past weekend.
I've found that pasta is A PAIN.
Still can't bite into things with my front teeth...
...Still have the lisp...

How are you holding up?

Well pasta is a pain! So is rice, lots of refried beans, yogurt, cottage cheese foods like that. Same here with the front teeth, also when I eat a peanut butter sandwhich I realized I have to pull it apart and can't bite into it, it just feels too wierd.

Today is the day I get my bands to start on my ccrossbite, pray for me, also I am using a BUNCH of wax when my wires pole me in my cheek. Listen if you are not allergic to this if you are in any pain my doc told me to take 2 Advil and 2 Tylenol and that helps with the pain. It does!!
