Hi all

#1 Post by Jigirk »

I'm looking to sort my teeth out once and for all.
I should have had braces years ago really but didn't see an issue at the time.

My parents couldn't afford braces anyway, plus the stigma of teasing at school would have put me off anyway.

I have a crossbite on the left-hand side, 3 lower teeth overlap my front and I hate it so much! My teeth are healthy and I keep them clean and white and have no fillings and they'd be perfect if it wasn't for this!

My old dentist screwed them up by extracting like crazy in the first place. My new dentist doesn't see an issue and says "it adds character" WTF!

I'd appreciate advice from people in the UK on what I would need done to correct this and the costs involved.
I'm in my 30's now too so I feel it's too late, but on the other hand I don't want to live the rest of my life with my teeth the way the are. Thanks

Hi Ken

Thanks for the reply, I shouldn't have posted on here really until I'd got the consultation, or got some braces fitted in fact!

Just finances stopping me, I'll report back on here if and when I make some progress!

It's never too late to get the smile you dream of! Hopefully, you will have your teeth many, many years to come. I truly believe it's worth the investment. You will be so happy you did!

Hi Jig,

I'm from London, but can't offer no specific advice about where you should turn to. It's just a matter of never settling for one or two answers, get quite a few.
The bad thing is, is that yours would probably seen as purely cosmetic. So in terms of costs you'll probably get the same round about figure...BUT...that being said because to me (I'm no Ortho but just opinions flying here) the work doesn't seem that great, it will be a short sentence for you.
The first round of Ortho's I went to advised me that I would have to pay exactly £2,800 for mine. My teeth are alot worse than yours so hey that's just my statement.
Another said £3,500....this is all metal by the way...I'm a student...like help!

SO..my mum suggested the hospital next to her workplace (Oh Guy's how I love them!) So they saw me....It took a LOOONG time believe me, I went to see them in March, I'm just getting my 2nd appointment with them soon. But they're doing it for free. Simply because mine is a medical case :(

But like I said shop around. Even do try the schooling hospitals because you never know

Hi there nessness

Thanks for the reply, it's great you're having yours done for free and all the better being as it's a medical case.

I know mine will be seen as purely cosmetic and it's not as bad as some, but it still bugs me and I let it affect my confidence a lot. It's become more of a mental rather than a dental issue really.

I've only been able to get minimum wage temp jobs also since getting made redundant here. So paying to get it fixed will have to wait a while longer...

I wish you all the best with your treatment, take care.

hi... i can sympathise with the "dentist thinks they add character" i'm in the uk too and also at the pondering stage- to be honest trying to work out if/how i can finance it. Same as yourself i have purely cosmetic issues but my friends and family think i am incredibly vain for wanting to get them fixed- seems a very british attitude.
