Grace's story
I'm getting braces in about a month. I'm a VERY nervous dental patient which is why I hadn't got round to getting them in the past (I'm 20 now)
My orthodontic experience started when I was just starting university and went to a new dentist. I told him I was unhappy about my crooked bottom teeth and after getting in touch with an orthodontist I was told I needed full braces to correct an overbite (which I have never noticed I had til I saw the photos - wow!) and elastics.
I'm really nervous about it all but I hope it will be worth it. I was just wondering how long everyone else has spent in braces, I was told I will be in them for at least 2 years, is this about normal?

Grace,
I was also worried about reactions of friends and fellow students. But in my experience, I'm happy to say that it was not a big deal to others. And in fact no one noticed, or at least they thought it not worth discussing. When I pointed it out to friends, they were understanding and supportive. And so far this year at college is turning out a whole lot better then last year...I attribute that to my braces. I've been happier since I got them and more open with others.
But 'brace' yourself for a couple of jokes
P.s. Are you having clear ceramics or metal? I have ceramic, and of course, recommend them

Hi guys,
Thanks for your comments. It's nice to hear eveyone was so supportive towards you, Lee. I get my braces on 2nd november, I've already had 2 teeth pulled to make space on my bottom row, the thought of which scared me almost as much as getting the actual braces! I'm getting metal on both.
Dee, when do you get yours? Are you getting metal or ceramic?

Hey Grace,
I had to have some dental work done before I can get braces - one of my molars had moved and the ensuing bite problems had caused the tooth to crack. This (and the fact that other teeth are moving) combined with a really bad overbite/jet and a deep bite are my reasons for seeking orthodontic treatment.
Anyway I have now had the required work done at the dentist and I go to see the orthodontist on the 18th of October for impressions/x-rays. I am not sure of the exact date I will get my braces on yet though.
How are things going for you?
