Hi everyone,

I am a 41 year old female. Had braces (not fixed ones though) as a child with very little effect. I have a deep bite and overjet. Lately my teeth seem to be moving arond on their own and the problems are getting worse. Just to complicate things a little I have a tooth which is "stuck" in my palate (it just never came down), which forms a "bump" on the roof of my mouth at the right side. So, I see the ortho in 3 weeks time for impressions and x-rays.

This is a wonderful site, lots of info and support, thankyou Lynn.

Your lucky, I don't know one in my area, I think I'm the only one, and I'm definately the only adult-in-braces at work.

I do know that Nicola Blackstock in Emmerdale has Ceramic uppers though.  So if it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me, and you.

Grace, did you move to Birmingham to seek specialist treatment or were you going to move there anyway. I'm fortunate because I dont' live far from City Centre Manchester where my orthodontist is. :D I find that if you do want specialist treatment you sometimes have to visit the City to seek one.

Hi to everyone and well done to the many people who have recently had their braces put on.

I go to the orthodontist on monday for my impressions and x-rays. For people who want "discrete" brackets this ortho uses the clear brackets from a company which I think is called American Orthodontics. Does anyone on the board have experience with these brackets?

After reading everyones posts I just want to get started now.

Hope you all have a good weekend :)

I have seen the clear brackets from this company on a German convention of orthodontist, recently. In my opinion they look pretty good.

Good luck with your treatment!

Hi all, me too from the UK! Yey! I'm in Oxford, my Orthodontist is in Wokingham, the company is Dentalign, I highly recommend them as they are superb! Been in braces (upper ceramics) for almost 2 months now and I've really come a long way in that time, was due to have them on for a year but after my 1st adjustment (my Orthdontist was amazed at how straight my teeth are after just 2 months) he said my treatment may well come to an end of just 9 months, which is next May! Yippee!

So to update my saga:
I went for my first orthodontist appointment on monday, had x-rays and impressions taken.

The orthodontist is not sure that orthodontics are my best treatment option, but says that she will study my models and x-rays before making a final decision. Given that I have a 9mm overbite/jet, and a deep bite which is causing problems with the gum behind the upper front incisors, this is not the news I was hoping for :( . The problem is that the teeth are too big to fit into the space available. I have heard other adults on this site talking of palate expanders, is this a viable option for all adults?

I now feel quite depressed and the danger of losing my upper front incisors is becoming a real possibility :-(( .

Now I have to wait 5 weeks for my next appointment with the ortho to find out her verdict (she is on holiday and then really booked up)

Hi again Dee

Can they not possibly remove 2 molars??

Maybe get a second opinion - Have a look at Dentalign who I'm with, they are pretty good and have practices all over the south. www.dentalign.co.uk.

Keep you chin up tho chook! :flowerbloom:

Hi Diva

The ortho said that she did not want to remove any more teeth as I have just 2 molars, top right and two molars + one pre molar top left. I actually have a gap on the right side where a pre molar tooth has been retained in my palate, but using this for space would mean that the midline would be totally off.

I have been thinking on this problem(as you can imagine) and I am going to ask about removing the top left pre molar as an option, or about palate expansion.
Thanks for your support, Dee.
