Hello Sandpiper and all of my other fellow bracketeers;

Sorry about the delay in replying -- I have been very busy with work and school.

I had my first adjustment a few weeks ago -- I was a little nervous -- wouldn't be me if I wasn't ;) So I sit in the chair and the assistant starts popping open my brackets, so far so good, then she starts clamping down the new wire. My eyes are closed and I'm trying to focus on the piped in music (it just happens to be "Misery" by Maroon 5 lol) and my anxiety is getting kicked up a few notches.

I can feel major pressure as she gets towards the front. Then, as if on cue, the assistant says "you can take Advil or Tylenol for this type of pain". Oh yeah, there will be pain killers on my list of to-do. My back molars started doing the watusi all over the place after that. It wasn't horrible, just uncomfortable. So more soup. But eating was back to normal within a few days.

Oh and the ortho remarked how much progress has been made already with my incisors. Where I once had crowding I now have gaps -- time to move those puppies forward, wahoo!

So Sandpiper how are you doing? Glad to hear the conference (and your presentation) went well for you, awesome!

I'm still having trouble eating socially as well. We just had dinner with friends and my biggest issue is my tongue is constantly probing my teeth for bits which is probably disgusting to watch so I'll have to make a concerted effort to tone it down.

Did you get the quad helix? Is it awkward? And how are your adjustments coming along?

Hi Lakester,

Thanks for the update, and glad to hear it's all going well. Congratulations on your gaps! It's great to see progress, isn't it?

I have had a couple of adjustments now, and yes, I have the quad helix in. It does take a bit of getting used to, but it's ok now (just coming up 2 weeks). My speech is broadly as it was....just a few things I have trouble with - words ending ch, sh & ish all sound a bit strange still. I just wish I could see it doing something, but at the moment (to my eyes) nothing seems to have changed. My ortho said he would take it out for Christmas, but I am sure I will be reunited with it again in the New Year, oh joy!! Still, I keep focussing on the fact that hopefully this time next year I will be approaching the end of treatment, which will just be amazing. I'm going to have such a big party when that day comes!

Good luck & keep in touch!
