Just got braces at 30 yrs old! - Need extractions! Ahh!

I just got my braces put on yesterday. So far, so good. I definitely think that the spacers they put in prior to braces were MUCH more uncomfortable than the actual braces. I have a tiny bit of soreness, took a little Tylenol and it's gone! Tylenol did not work with the pain from my spacers. I was so glad to get them out!

Now, I need to get E I G H T teeth removed. All four wisdom teeth (2 of which are impacted) and the teeth next to my canine teeth on both right and left sides, top and bottom. My orthodontist wants me to get this done within the next 4 weeks, but I have to admit that I am kind of terrified! 8 teeth is a lot of freaking teeth! Especially since the 2 bottom wisdom teeth are impacted. I keep giving myself these pep talks since I know that in the end I have to get this done anyway, but I'm scared! I don't want any part of it. ugh!

Anyone else have to have so many teeth pulled? Words of wisdom?

I had to have three premolars out, but I got to keep my wisdom teeth, since they're perfectly healthy and fine.

They are almost certainly not going to take all 8 teeth at once unless they're putting you completely under for the wisdom teeth, in which case they'll do the whole thing while you're under (probably the best way, to be honest).

Go ahead and schedule it, and go to whoever your ortho recommends. This is what I did. Schedule now; you aren't going to get an opening for a while, probably three or four weeks. If they do it while you're out it won't be a big deal, though it'll be pretty painful afterward. Your mouth is going to hurt afterward for about a week. Quite a lot. This is normal. The lower jaw extraction sites will hurt LOTS more than the upper jaw sites. This is normal too.

Take lots of whatever painkiller works best for you, eat soft foods, and don't be alarmed that it hurts. It's supposed to hurt, you've had pieces of bone wrenched out of your face with a large pair of pliers.

I'm 30 and am getting my braces tomorrow..eek. I had my wisdom teeth out a few years ago and it went just fine, they did put me under though. I have one tooth to get extracted and I'm a little nervous about because I will be awake. Just take plenty of pain killers and make sure you have lots of soft foods on hand. Good luck!

I was 30 when I got my braces put on also! I had a nasty snaggle tooth that haunted me, and made me so self-conscious that I would cover my mouth every time I laughed or smiled.
It has been 13 months since I had them put on and the progress is AMAZING! I am so happy!
I have 11 months left and can hardly wait to see the finished results!!!

I had all four premolars (the ones next to your canines) out at the same time. It was a breeze! I was conscious. For wisdom teeth I think they usually sedate especially when they're impacted. Don't be too scared. I cheered during my extractions because I was one step closer to something I really, really wanted: braces and a straight smile!

I got all 4 wisdome teeth PLUS 3 other teeth removed at the same time.
WHy 3 and not 8 to be equal? well i had alsready removed one years ago and so to make things even i needed the other 3 removed....of course i was put under and let me tell you...i woke up in no pain what so ever and it's been exctly a week since i got it done and i've healed perfectly....i ate soft foods for the first 3 days and then had my braces and wire put on 2 days after the surgery and so all the soreness has kept me from eating hard food....but it really isn't as bad as it sounds...just make sure you take your prescribed medicines and make sur you follow the Doctors after care suggestions

I had both wisdom teeth extracted a few years ago. I was so nervous that they offered me nitrous on the house! I didn't take it, and the teeth popped/were leveraged out in about 30 seconds each. I tell everyone it was literally my easiest dental process ever!

I will have to have a bottom tooth extracted next year when I get my lower braces, right now I just have the uppers to make room for the lower!

I got my braces put on when I was 29 and have had them for almost 2 years. I will have to have them on for about 1 more year due to the fact that now I have a problem with my bite. So my last ortho appointment, I had my wisdom tooth and 2 premolars extracted. It was no biggy..my ortho's office is really nice and each chair has a flat screen tv that is mounted to a very long arm..kind of like the lamp they use to shine into your mouth..anyways.. I was watching Paula Dean make brownies the whole time...I was not put under or out..lol..they just juiced me up with the needles and went for it...it wasn't painful at all..not even uncomfortable.. the only thing that I noticed was the cracking sound..but all my teeth came out in whole pieces. You will be fine...keep us updated.
