how long will it take for spaces to close after extractions?

#1 Post by violetvee »

its been like 10 months now and my dentist extracted 4 of my premolars (upper and lower), to pull in my teeth, he is already pulling my lower anterior teeth back with power chains. Can somebody pls tell me if you had the same experience as me, and how long did it took your orthodentist to close the spaces?? THANKS!! I really want to have to smile without these spaces again.. thank you! :D

Hey!

So I had 3 premolars extracted for my treatment, and the spaces are already closing pretty well. The lower is a little stubborn, but I was realizing today that my upper spaces are almost gone, and not visible anymore. I can feel them with my tongue but that's it. My extractions happened in October or November, my braces went on in early December, and the spaces just seem to have closed in the last week. So...seven or eight months. They didn't actively start working on closing them up till about April or May, though. It happens really fast once it gets going.

I'm currently double powerchained to accomplish that, and had to start wearing my elastics at night only because my teeth were being pulled back faster than the spaces were closing.

Hope this helps!

Well, I had my one and only extraction in May 2010. Maybe my teeth just move slowly, but he actively started trying to close the gap in around July 2010, and a year later, it's just about closed (give or take 1mm or so). I had a tiny elastic pulling back my canine towards the back, and that worked great. After he took it off, the movement slowed a bit, but once I got a full powerchain back on, it sped up again.

Good luck!

i had a pre molar extracted in June 2010 and one extracted in march 2011 ( dont ask why im just a whimp) because my 2010 extraction cant move through the bone on its own as the gap has been there for more than a year, the gum and bone have fused on both sides. next thursday i am having Tad's placed in my lower jaw to pull those molars forward. my ortho said it can take a year he used the example of wet cement vs cement that has partially set.

i think my gap size is around 9-10mm

hope this helps
