So great to hear that there even more of us over 60 joining the forum. I have had my braces on for over 20 months, and am hopefully getting near the end of treatment. I still am self conscious eating in public, worrying about food getting caught in my braces, but love the little intradental soft picks and am never without them. Good luck with your braces journey. There is wonderful support on these boards.

I got my braces at 55 and am six months in at this point. I can really see a difference in my teeth -- they look so much better already. My face shape has changed a bit and I'm very pleased with the change.

Welcome!

It is really cool to me that you have decided to take that step and improve your health and get braces. I have debated so long whether or not to spend the money and get braces myself and it took my husband to finally say its something you "need" not a want....I need to have a healthy mouth and need to not have the tmj issues I have...
No matter how old you are you need to take the consideration to keep yourself healthy, and I commend you all for taking that step!!

My orthodontist once had a patient that was 80 years young! You're never too old to have a beautiful smile :D

Hi all!

I got braces almost a year ago when I was 55, and am now 56. The year really has gone by fast, and it will have been a small price to pay after I get them off next spring (I hope!)

I am glad I got braces even though I now have this d*mn Forsus appliance in my mouth!!
I know it will be worth it!

Hi, I'm 51 and got my braces 3 weeks ago. I'm slowly getting used to them but eating is a real challenge. I've got to attend a big family party next month ... and eat in public! I don't know how I'm going to manage - everything I eat seems to get stuck in my braces.

I had braces placed on my bottom arch late January 2012. My parents could never afford to brace my teeth, and my husband and I haven't been that good at earning money either. I have never figured out why we don't do better economically, but I figured it is now or never and the teeth were getting MORE crooked. Who would have thought it possible to me MORE crooked. Alas. Now's the time.

I am going to have a tooth extraction (eeek I mean EEEK) in 2 days and I am really getting worked up about it. They figure if that tooth goes, then my midline can move over and the teeth (the arch) can come in a bit. I have quite a bit of an overbite.

I will get the top braced 2 weeks after the extraction, and that is frightening me too. Most people either haven't noticed or haven't commented on the braces on my bottom arch, so far.

When I got my teeth cleaned, after the bottoms were braced, the hygienist commented that she had seen a 72-year-old patient with braces that very week, in for work. Isn't that cool! How very nice.

My bottom teeth have really moved! It is shocking how much easier they are to brush now, in spite of the hardware. Without them being all crookedy and slumped down like they were, brushing is a breeze. What an improvement, even with the ortho stuff on!

Well, good luck to everyone. I hope I live through the extraction.
