Newbie for NYC!!

#1 Post by SunFlwrs »

Hi everyone,
I'm so glad that I found a site for adults in braces. I searched so much to find a site that would help me deal with the braces, and what i've been experiencing. It's been a relief to know that there's other out there feeling and going through what i'm going through.
Let me introduce myself. I'm 27 years old, married, and live in NY. I've always wanted braces but was afraid to get them for several reasons. First, PAIN!! Second the pain, and the pain.. HAHA
Then I realized that I wanted it for me. Some people get plastic surgery, or implants, I on the other hand have always wanted to fix my crooked teeth. So I went and found a good registered orthodontist, who was highly recommended and didn't think of the cost. Although it's costing me $5,000. I got clear on top and metal on the bottom.
I had to have 3 extractions, which was no fun. And I was put into braces almost immediately. I've had braces on for about a month, and I have to say that I cannot stand the pain of when they get tightened. Tylenol or motrin doesn't work. I'm miserable for about a week. I can't eat, and it hurts to touch my teeth. I tried using ambesol gel, but that just made my tongue numb. Does anyone have suggestions on pain relieving tips? Do you eventually not feel pain from the monthly tightening regimen? Any advice???? Thanx!! :P

Bite Wafers???

#2 Post by SunFlwrs »

It's hurts so bad to touch my teeth after an adjustment, that I can't see how some people use bite wafers. I don't think my braces are heat activated, they just hurt after the tightenings.
BTW, Where can I purchase bite wafers? I don't think i'll be able to find them at a local duane reade... Any suggestions??
Thanx!!
