Hi there! I was just braced yesterday but have been checking out the forum for a little while, eagerly waiting the time until I could make my first post. All of the information and experiences here have been so helpful and have made the process less scary.
I had 4 extractions immediately before the braces went on yesterday. My primary issues are extreme crowding and several teeth that are in crossbite. My ortho said my estimated treatment time is 18-24 months, but I keep telling myself 24 months so I won't be disappointed if it takes that long
I just recently got Braced as well. November 26th so it looks as if we will go through this together. LOL My issue was crowding as well but I chose the Damon system to not have extractions! I just don't understand why some orthos are still using traditional braces when it isn't always necessary to extract! I did alot of research before I made a decision but I knew from the start I wanted ALL my teeth!! : )

I ended up having 6 extractions, 4 wisdom teeth and 2 top molars. Unfortunately my overcrowding was so bad that they couldn't fix my teeth without having to do it.
I was braced on Nov 19th and my ortho said 18 months as well. Hopefully he is correct about this time as I would LOVE to have them off for Christmas 2014.

I had four extractions due to severe crowding and I also have crossbites.
It feels weird eating with the gaps but it is getting easier every day. I was happy to have extractions as it was very obvious that I had 12 cars in 8 parking spots and it was never going to work!

My ortho also uses the Damon system and said he prefers not to extract, but I just had too many teeth to fit my arch so he recommended they be taken out in my case. It's so nice you didn't have to have any yanked, though! That has definitely been the worst part of my experience so far!

I had my wisdoms out last year, ugh... that was a horrible experience. Feeling significantly better today, though. My teeth are still sensitive but nothing unmanageable. It would be fabulous to have a beautiful smile for Christmas 2014!

That's a great analogy! I was hesitant about the extractions (especially with how... passionate... some people are about them) but once my ortho took measurements and a cast of my mouth and explained the options, it was pretty clear that there was no room for those teeth!
Congrats! Also 30 with braces- but I just got mine 4 days ago so I'm a few weeks behind! I hope things are all getting easier for you now (which will mean they will be easier for me soon haha)
I had a tooth break from my bad bite, so I didn't have to do any extractions fortunately. That is actually part of why I wanted my braces- to close the gap from the broken tooth I had to extract.
Also (almost) 30 and got Damon braces. The first ortho I saw suggested traditional braces and wanted 4 extractions + spacers (I already have all 4 wisdom teeth removed a few years ago).
I have overcrowding (upper teeth) too, probably like "10 cars in 8 parking lots". I have an open coil spring on my right incisor now to create space, i.e.: expand my parking lot, HAHA! Building this additional lot is expected to take 8 months before the hidden tooth can be braced.
