Newbie intro

#1 Post by blueribbon »

Hello!

I'm not really good with introductions, but I'll give it a go anyway :)

Ever since my adult teeth started coming in I've had crowded/crooked teeth! I was meant to have braces as a kid, but due to bad dentist phobia I would not agree to do it. I was bullied about them when I was younger and have never really felt comfortable smiling. Plus they are pretty difficult to floss and clean. Like anyone, I don't want my teeth decaying and want to keep them for as long as possible! So at 20 years old I've decided to bite the bullet and get braces. I'm rather nervous to say the least!

I've opted for the metal fastbraces. I'm having the top set fitted next week and the bottom set in a week or so after that. So glad I've found this forum. Been reading some of the posts, very helpful, not quite so freaked out now!!

Hi there! I'm new on here too. I've only been wearing braces three days and I can already tell a difference. I have a dentist phobia too, to be honest my mum made me get these phobia or not, but just do what I did, focus on other things, the light-what does it remind you of? Your holiday to spain??? Keep thinking of other things.

Heyy! :D

Its great you are already noticing a difference! Must make wearing them a little more bearable?
Sorry to hear you have dentist phobia too, you are doing great to have got this far already. And it'll all be worth it for the end result :)
Thats a really good idea, thanks, I'll give it a go!

Hope your braces aren't too painful for you today

Hi, thank you for asking, It's still the same day that I originally replied here in my time zone but the pain has decreased massively, I am defiantly more used to wearing them now. My dentist phobia comes from some pretty bad memories, basically for the last 7 years every time I've gone to a dentist, they've taken a tooth out and I literally have to be fully sedated because I'm terrified of needles and I go into a panic attack when they come near me. I hope all is well with you and good luck, the smile at the end will defiantly be worth it for us both!

ToBeHeard - Thats really positive. I hope the pain continues to get better! Are you finding your speech is affected? Sorry to hear about your experience with the dentist. I know how you feel, I need a back molar removed but I'm just too scared to go! Its good they offer sedation, my dentist doesn't :? Yes! If only we could fast forward time! But no pain, no gain I suppose...

JeniK - Hi!! Is that for osteoporosis? I was diagnosed with osteoporosis 2 years ago (very rare for my age). I'm not on the medication though. I've heard it can limit some of your options for orthodontic treatment, but I'm sure (worst case senario) they could devise a treatment plan tailored for your case. I really hope you get the all clear and you can get on with your orthodontic treatment in the very near future. I'll be crossing my fingers for you too! :)

My speech is affected at the moment but I"m sure it'll improve in a week or so. I wish I coulf fast foward time or rewind it, to be honest I'm pretty upset about wearing them for my upcoming birthday in August (I know its a while to go) it was supposed to be one of the major ones-in my family at least- but I guess I have to go without the cake. My dentist (where I get my check-ups) doesn't do sedation, I have to go to a specialist place for that, and neither do braces so I have to go for an orthdontist.....I'm all over the place.

Blueribbon, My medication is for osteopenia, which is before osteoporosis. I have been on this med for 14 months. You have to be on it for 1 year before it starts to work. Orth Dr. said that he has had others on this med ( fosamax) and their dr put them on something else for the time being. I sure hope something can be worked out. I am very anxious for Tuesday. Thanks for the reply!!
