I'm a newbie to this forum and pretty much all things braces! I am 31 and from the UK. I am looking into getting braces and had two consultations recently... Considering getting Radiance brackets top and bottom and also need 4 teeth extracted EEKKK!!
VERY nervous about the whole braces journey (especially being an 'oldie' hehe) I think I'll be on here a lot
Hi and welcome! I am 38 and almost 3 months into my treatment. I still dont like the braces but I am really amazed at how quickly my teeth straightened out and wish I had done this years go.

I wish I had done it sooner to be honest, not so much because of my age but rather the fact that I'm hoping to get married next year so would love to have perfect teeth for the wedding. But never mind, the ortho I have seen told me she's happy to remove the brackets for my wedding so at least I wont have that to deal with on the day. I know they won't be near finished (I've been told it should take 18 months for my treatment and I'm aware it might be longer than that so it'll be long after the wedding that I'm done with braces... If I even get them! I go back and forth so much with my decision. Did anyone else have that problem?!
Welcome! I've had my top braces for almost 2 months, and my bottom braces for about a week. It still feels a little awkward for me and I am having some problems chewing right now, but I know it's all going to be worth it

Hi mystic girl what brackets do you have? Are you used to the top ones yet?
Congratulations on getting the process started! I'm so excited to do the same... The more I think about it the more I'm certain I want braces!!
I'm quite used to the top ones, my dentist has noticed a lot of improvement in about 5 or 6 weeks compared to the initial impressions I made back in May. My braces are all metal with hot pink ligatures

The four extractions thing is so hard to get your head around isn't it? We're trying to improve our teeth/smile and here they are telling us to rip four out For me it's difficult trusting the orthos recommendation to get teeth out but I have to keep reminding myself that they're the experts!!
As someone from the UK have you come across any dentists who aren't registered as specialist orthos? I was kind of shocked to realise that there are a lot of dentists offering orthodontic treatment without the extra training... I'm not entirely sure how it works, I know dentists can legally practice orthodontics but surely they can't be as skilled as someone with the extra degree?! I have found them to be much cheaper though so maybe it's a case of getting what you pay for??
I had to look up the radiance brackets (I thought I'd already researched just about everything)! They look really, really great! I think I'd be quite enthusiastic about sporting a pair of those, but I have a funny feeling I'd find it impossible to find anyone who uses them here (opposite side of the world to you). I'm extremely nervous about starting the whole process as well - I'm 28. But I'm now starting to imagine how nice it will be at the end to have a smile that I'm no longer uncomfortable about.
