Is it common to get just top braces at first visit?

When I got my braces over a month ago, I had them done on the top first - my dentist and the hygenist explained that this was only to make more room for the bottom ones

I also only got the top braces put on at my first appointment. My ortho said my top teeth would constantly hit the brackets if they put them on the bottom now.

I am okay with it, not really enjoying my braces!

I was offered a choice of tops one week and bottoms the next BUT I did not want to have to drive back in again (an hour both ways) and I also did not want to wait. So I got both.
I also have an over bite so they put temporary filling on my back upper molars so I can not bite on front bottom brackets.

I got my top ceramic braces on on Tuesday. I was surprised as I had expected both sets to go on at the same time. The dentist said he rarely braces up both jaws at the same time. I have to wait 16 weeks for my bottoms. I'm really glad now as my top teeth hurt like hell. It would be twice as bad if my bottoms were sore too. The only thing is I feel like a Simpson cartoon character with a top lip that sticks out.

Oh my goodness, that Simpson cartoon character description is exactly how I feel. I feel like I am working extra hard to keep my mouth closed. I remember the first time I tried to put chapstick on and rub my lips together, oh my...funny stuff!

You are so right!! I can't rub my lips together without real effort and the feeling my front teeth are going to shoot down my throat. On top of that my bottom teeth look crowded so I'm paranoid people are looking at me and thinking 'why the heck is she not sorting those out aswell!'

I am the same way and I have had so many people say to me that the didn't realize how crooked my teeth are until now. Eek!

I'm totally opposite. Getting lowers on Tuesday + expander and uppers later (after the expander does its thing).
