Hello all!
As I'm sure many of you can empathize, I've always needed braces - but family could never afford them while I was younger. I'm just on the cusp of being able to afford them myself, and now I'm almost consumed with doing as much research as I can. I always brushed them off when dentists said 'you need braces', because I knew it wasn't going to happen - so I pretended like I didn't want them. A self defence thing, I suppose. Then I got married this year and some of my wedding pictures made me sad and really embarrassed (and actually sad and embarrassed again to write that out! Ugh); couldn't take my smile in 'HD', well my teeth - I have a nice smile, just not so nice teeth.
I'm going to a regular dentist in a week or so for a cleaning, then after that I'll start looking into orthos in my area. I'd like to save up a bunch of $ before I get braced, enough to pay half up front so I have lower monthly payments. With that in mind, I'm probably looking into May 2014.
Once I'm able, I'll include some pre-braces teeth pictures here. It seems like my bite lines up okay - everything lines up to and including the canines, but my incisors flare out forward, one slightly more than the other/kind of overlaps, one lateral incisor is a bit back/behind the incisor that flares forward, other one seems okay-ish, maybe flares a bit...er....if any of that makes sense!
Anyway! Looking forward to reading everyones stories and getting some good information and support.

Hi! Welcome this site is great for support and information
I'm sorry you feel that way about your teeth; I can relate! But just think once you get them on and get used to them it's only a matter of time before you'll have straight teeth and a smile your happy with

Thank you for the welcome!
In general, I wouldn't say I'm constantly self-conscious of them - but I'm quite looking forward to having them fixed up! While my bite seems to be okay, I wouldn't be surprised if I needed some type of surgery to expand things to make room for my teeth. I guess I shall see! Hard not to look over cases and think 'huh, their teeth are kind of like mine...'! Best wait until a pro has a look.
I see that you've only been in braces for a few weeks now, hope it's going well!
