I use a waterpik religiously. It removes chunks of stuff that would otherwise be harder to get out. Means I can eat popcorn, and other things I probably shouldn't as well.

I'm looking forward to investing in one! At the moment it takes me about 30 minutes to floss with braces..

I definitely recommend the waterpik BUT I would NOT use it as a replacement to flossing.

I'm day 4 in braces and Ordered a Waterpik yesterday, as I'm clearly paranoid about keeping my teeth clean while they are imprisoned in their new home.

It sounds like people typically: 1. Waterpik 2. Brush 3. Floss 4. Rinse. ??? Yes???

Do you use it at other times during the day as well?

Absolutely 100% YES... I bought a travel Waterpik (online in the US from their website, also look on Amazon) prior to getting my braces - it's been such a great investment... In the first 2 weeks when I seriously struggled to get floss through the bulky brackets at the back, at least I was able to get food stuff out ( that brushing alone did not) using the Waterpik... Even though I have mastered the flossing now (using Glide threader floss) I use the Waterpik prior to flossing and brushing both morning and evening - it really does make a big cleaning difference... Also recommend using a small amount of mouthwash in with the warm water for max freshness! Yes, it's messy with water potentially spraying all over the place, but I'd be lost without it now!!!

I've been in braces for a little over a week now. I have some pretty moderate crowding and with all of the extra bulk in my mouth now, combined with even more front teeth tightness thanks to multiple spacers, I can't fit floss between a lot of teeth.... It's just too tight right now. I Waterpik twice a day after brushing, and attempt to floss several times a week. I find I really don't get anything out with floss. I brush after every meal and rinse with fluoride mouthwash at least twice a day.

I bought the cordless one so I could take it with me when I'm not at home. I use it before I brush to get all the crud out of the way first. I still use regular floss a couple times a week, but I use the waterpik twice a day or more depending on what I eat. Since I had and expander and now a palate bar in, it has been super helpful to get everything dislodged from the appliances. Definitely makes life easier!!

Also highly recommending the waterpik. I have the original. My unit is a bit loud so I try to use it in the evening after dinner. I recently just had braces added to my upper teeth, so it has been put to good use as of late. Not a total substitution for flossing, but helps a lot with post-meal cleaning.

Thank you all for this great info. I think it's unanimous that a waterpik is a great investment.

It's ridiculous how long it takes to floss using the threader for each tooth.

Also funny how much of a mess I make when I decide to open up my mouth a bit when using the WaterPik...

I ended up getting a RediBreeze and I love it. I control the water temp and flow. It connects to my faucet and has a toggle. Best of all it was $30, made in USA by vets!
