ouch now wearing 4 banded brackets

#1 Post by sage »

Everything was ticking along nicely until two days ago when I got my back four teeth braced with metal bands. Prior to this I'd not had any brackets on my very back teeth. Man...this is a whole new world. I think it will get better but man are those bands sharp!! Anyone have any handy tips. I'm waxed to the max. Lol...my fear is when the time comes how.on earth do they get them off without breaking your teeth?

The first 2 times I had braces I had molar bands and you do get used to them. Your tongue and cheeks will adjust so hang in there. When they remove the bands, they have a tool that helps take them off and break the glue but will not break your teeth. So don't worry.

I have molar band as well and am worried about the removal... And the beginning was rough with all the sharp bits... Lots of wax for the first week and now they are just apart of me.

I have four molar bands and at first couldn't believe how sharp they were. The dental assistant used pliers to flatten the hooks and that helped a bit. Fortunately they haven't caused any rubbing or ulcers although I used wax for about a week. They are not a bother now except when I occasionally get my tongue caught in them. It's amazing what the mouth gets used to.

I had bands on my back teeth the first 2 times. this time, as of yet, I do not have anything
on the last 2 teeth on both sides top and bottom.

I needed to have my lower bands removed because they did not fit properly. The ortho used an electric tool sort of like a mini saw. He cut the outside and then it just popped off. Very easy and no trouble at all.
