It gets worse before it gets better right?

#1 Post by ZariasMommi »

I've been wearing braces since May 11th. My top teeth were not too bad. The crowding caused my canines to be really high up, but everything was rather straight. My bottom teeth were so crowded! My teeth were overlapping big time. (If I had photo privileges I'd share....can I edit this and add pics after I get privilege? Hmmm)
Anyway, so since I have had 4 extractions and had coil wire placed for spacing. Things are moving rather quickly I think. My canines dropped more into place after the extractions. My bottom teeth however, :-x have spread out in a zig zag manner (does that make sense?) and the two middle teeth stick out more to the front than the rest (I swear I have not been pushing them with my tongue.) It's terrible. I sound funny when I speak because my tongue does not hit my teeth at the bottom since they are so far out that I have a lisp I'm afraid I will have until things begin to align. When I have my mouth closed it looks like I have tobacco stuffed in my lower lip because it's "bumpy." The orthodontist was hoping to have the coil wire make enough room to remove it at my last visit and put on wire only...but unfortunately that was not the case. She added activators to my wire for more room and I go back Aug 24th. Hopefully I can get wire only then and my teeth can start lining up. Someone who didn't know I had braces made a comment the other day while we talked. She was like "Oh. What's wrong with your mouth? Did you hurt it??" because it's so hard to talk with all this coil in my mouth (I have some coil at the top too) that it looks funny when I talk!! UGH! I was so embarrassed and explained I had recently had braces put on and they were like "Oh." :Questions: That made my day, NOT. I felt completely odd and ugly the rest of the day. So here I am venting on arched wire because I'm hoping that all this coil and all these gaps mean that soon I will be lining up my teeth and speaking normal again...It gets worse before it gets better right? :yuck:

I totally feel you! I too had crowding both top and bottom - my top canines were also high and have been brought down, and my bottom canine teeth lay sideways across adjacent teeth... Top teeth coming along nicely - well as nice as possible lol, but my bottom teeth are all over the place too! Some aren't attached to the archwire yet as there isn't space yet - the teeth on the wire have moved forward along the arch, and the other teeth have just been left behind - so ugly! I'm hoping that by my next appointment my other teeth can join the others on the archwire! Good luck! I feel like I know your 'pain' - cant wait to see/read about your progress!

I'm at that stage, too. Still gaps, just in different places and there is some weird new ridge in my mouth that I fear is going to interfere with the front teeth finally coming together. It's from the rubbing of my bottom teeth, I think and i'm just really hoping it will sort itself out. And, blast, it's the wedding next week so I think the pics will be the same 'mouth closed' look I've had for 50 years.

However, I still don't regret a minute of it and, all together now...it WILL be worth it!

I am dealing with coil springs also. Mine is on the top right and I hate to talk because I am embarrassed by it. I have one tooth that is behind and doesn't have a bracket on it yet. Hopefully my teeth will have made room for it in 8 weeks and I can get it removed and get the bracket! Hang in there! It has to be worth it in the end, right? ;)

Which teeth did you have to have extracted? I have four extractions coming up and will have to wear springs afterwards as well? Are they very painful? I hope I can get through it!
