Hi all,

just checking in to see how you're all doing?

I have a weird thing going on... my second incisor (next to my front teeth) brackets have started cutting the inside of my lip up for the first time, 2.5 weeks in. Does that mean they've moved, or is it just that 2 weeks of constant rubbing has just worn my lip down?!

I hope everyone is coping well and seeing some good progress :D

Hiya *waves*

It's amazing how quickly things do move so it's entirely possible that movement is causing your problem. Once the ends of wires were thick enough to stop ripping my cheeks to shreds (!), everything would be ok for 2 of the 3 weeks between appts then movement sometimes caused discomfort for the last week. This I did not mind! :)

If in doubt, always contact your dentist but, hopefully, it's just the result of action!

I had what is, hopefully, my last powerchain but one put on yesterday.

i hope you will have a great journey, keep us updated!

I also have a dental phobia, had to do 6 fillings and a root canal at 28, it was the second time i visited the dentist (the first was not successful :? )
i also had 4 premolars extracted.
it was a very hard decision for me, but i am trying to think about the final result. I wish you will have great results!

I actually had pretty severe dental phobia for years so I feel your pain. What helped for me are going to very small practices with very gentle female dentists. I freak out more with a lot of people coming in and out of the room. I also have anxiety problems so I find that taking an anti-anxiety medication before an appointment helps.

Yay for you with going with 6 month smiles! I wouldn't have been able to be treated that way but was lucky enough to be able to do invisalign now that they have the G5 version for deep bites. I have "virtual bite ramps" on the back of my upper alinger, they're like little bubbles but not filled with anything and they don't hurt or cause problems at all. (I'm also lucky that because I have Invisalign I can take it out to eat and brush).

Having a fixed bite plate was one of my nightmare scenarios when I went in for my consult. I think that's actually something I would've flat out refused to have an insisted on a removable one. I really admire those of you who are dealing with it - I can't even imagine...

For other phobics considering treatment, Invisalign (if you're a good candidate and please find this out from an actual ortho and not a regular dentist) is much easier to get through. I didn't need IPR so the worst part for me was taking the impressions and having my attachments bonded. Also, there's less chair time and less people fiddling inside your mouth at the appointments so this was a big plus for me.
The problems:
Lower crowding, a slightly rotated upper canine and a deep bite
