Newbie getting braces in 5 weeks :D
Hi, I'm in Scotland UK and new to braces aged 44 and i'm SO EXCITED to be getting them on in 5 weeks, i've been watching youtube videos and reading as much as possible This forum seems really friendly so thanks for having me
A little background: I have a deep bite and i'm sure it's been causing increasing continual jaw pain (tmj) so my dentist suggested braces to help align my bite properly and maybe fix the jaw pain. This will also fix a few crooked and twisted teeth that I struggle to clean properly. I know my confidence will soar because i'm self conscious about my twisted teeth and hopefully the jaw pain will improve.
I'm going private and will be getting Inspire Ice clear braces, anyone else got experience with these?
I will enjoy working my way through the forum posts and preparing for every possible scenario

Thanks for the welcome Mummafish
I am nervous and excited too but probably more excited (that could change though lol) So you'll have yours on before me, i look forward to reading how you're getting on. How long have they said you will need them? I've been told 12-18 months for mine

Hi-I'm in my 40's too and getting inspire ice on the 28th! I will let you know what I think about them..the ortho said they were the lowest profile and more comfortable than other ceramics (according to other patients of hers) but we'll see! I actually tried the lingual (behind the teeth) but had to get them taken off. I couldn't stand all that metal covering up each and every one of my teeth on the inside. It wasn't like small brackets- each tooth was literally covered in metal and that was all you could taste and feel not to mention the wire. SO it wasn't for me..After that experience the clear has to better

It's been a little over 24 hours - they really started hurting (maybe sensitive is a better word?) around 3 am this morning? I had a dream my teeth were falling out. Motrin is GREAT ... what hurts the most is when I accidentally bump my top teeth. The bottoms are "safe" as I had such an overbite that my orthodontist had to put "bite bumps" which are globs of cement on my back molars to keep my top teeth from biting down on my bottom braces. This being said, all this shows is my teeth are MOVING and that is exciting!

I am terrified my teeth will fall out!! My Orthodontist said I am their 15,000 and something patient and he hasn't lost any yet!! If you read here, people do say they go through a spell where they seem loose... But they settle down and firm up!
I will stock up on pain relief and wax it seems...

Re: Newbie getting braces in 5 weeks :D
I've had moments after getting braces in the dark of night where I worried that my hygenist will get upset with me when I go in for my next cleaning and tells me I've made a horrible mistake getting braces because at my age (43) my teeth are gonna fall out anyway in a few years. I do have some gum issues that I'm working on but in the light of day my fears seem fairly silly. I hope. Lol.
Re: Newbie getting braces in 5 weeks :D
All the best with your braces!! Just had mine in for a couple of weeks so about the whole wobbly teeth issue; I did feel my teeth loosen but it means your teeth are responding well to the braces and its starting to slowly move and shape itself. Eating will be a hassle because of it, so for the first week don't even attempt to bite on something that is hard or crunchy it will be like constantly biting on a ice lolly the pain will be there haha. Also jealous you will be getting the ice clear braces plan, I went plain old metal tracks for cost wise

Welcome! This forum is really helpful for gaining perspective as well as information. It is also a nice way to fill the time while you anxiously wait for your date to arrive lol. I am a little over one week in and pain free. The first few days were rough but in the grand scheme of things I am sure that will only be a blip on this journey. I hope everything goes well for you and I look forward to reading your progress

Re: Newbie getting braces in 5 weeks :D
So I just got mine on about 4 hrs ago. So far so good. They just put the top on so I can get used to it. Aside from it feeling sooo chunky it is WAY better than the linguals I had. It's also better that I can see everything to clean it. You can't tell I have them on unless I smile which is nice but it def feels annoying and I feel like my mouth is REALLY dry. I haven't tried to eat anything yet but so far so good. I think having the linguals first helps me compare to how much worse it could be. Let me know how things go for you!
