Hello - got braces at 36

#1 Post by krizzz »

Well, almost 37. Got ceramic braces top and bottom for crooked top right #2 and deep bite. My estimated treatment time is 18 months. Today is the day #3 and it definitely hurts but I was warned. I have buildups on top #4s so can't really chew absolutely anything :/ Feeling a little miserable but reading other people's posts about their experiences assures me that the pain and discomfort will eventually go away. I took aspirin yesterday evening and it definitely helped with the pain. Also, the pain increases as the day goes so will probably take aspirin again tonight. Some teeth feel like they are already moving though! That's both, painful and encouraging :) Also, when I exercised at the gym, the pain seemed to diminish, so that's good. Need to make sure I'm getting my calories and proteins from the liquid diet though. I have like 10 extra pounds "saved" after the winter but can't afford to loose more. Blender is my friend I guess. Do you people have any suggestions for the diet when you can't chew at all?

I am 2 weeks in and I have to say that that first week was ROUGH. Couldn't chew anything either and was on a liquid diet. I was definitely miserable on my worst days...but it does pass (I was so miserable for awhile that the whole thing seemed hopeless and I swore that it would NEVER get better)! Seeing movement is good encouragement too.

Blender is definitely your best friend! My boyfriend's family had a BBQ that first weekend, and while I couldn't eat anything (was eating my soup instead), but he took the leftovers (steak, veggies, potatoes, etc), threw them in a pot, added some broth, and some onions and garlic and blended it...it was delicious. I did lots and lots of soup and smoothies though. My friend also recommended pureed cauliflower. Good luck!

Blender is your friend, but you could also try a protein shake. Some of them taste very good!
