New braceface at 26
Thought I would introduce myself. My name is Shelly and I'm 26 years old, and just got braces put on a little less than a week ago! I signed up so that I could get some advice (I have molar build ups and they're killing me, currently) but I also love that there's a community here of other adults with braces. I opted for ceramics and have 18 months to go!

Hey Shelly, I'm Kazey, I just got braces 3 days ago. I'm 27 and was told my treatment plan is 18-24 months,. I'm hoping to be one of the case that finishes a year early. Lol . Right now I only have top braces (regular metal type). I have to get 3 teeth extracted and wait on more movement before I can get the bottoms put in.
I'm glad you started this thread, I've been so confused as to what to expect or do while on this loooong journey with braces

Oh my god I feel your molar build ups pain. I had them for about 4 months (out of a total 7 months so far) and eating was such a challenge at first (still no walk in the park at the best of times), but you definitely get more used to them. Personally, I found it helpful to eat softer foods that were bulky, if that makes sense? So like, tuna sandwiches or penne pasta or well roasted veggies instead of spaghetti or rice dishes. I think the larger surface area made it easier to sort of smush the food between what used to be touching molars. Good luck!!
