23 years old & getting braces again

#1 Post by dovhe »

I'm getting my braces (again!) on April 10th to finally treat my impacted canine, which made a surprise appearance on its own. My baby tooth is still in, the canine is obviously very crooked, but the ortho says I'll be surprised by how quickly it'll improve. The treatment will take approximately 18-24 months.

My biggest dilemma is choosing between ceramic / metal braces. I had the ceramic ones the first time around and I hadn't even considered getting metal ones. However, my sister told me to go with regular metal braces, since ceramic braces look stranger than regular ones. I did have problems with staining (I love coffee and red wine, plus I have recently developed strong affection of curry), but I'm still really skeptical about getting metal braces. I barely notice braces on other people; they're not something that defines them. However, I know this isn't the general opinion. I'm currently working on my Master's degree in law and I'll probably start going to interviews with law firms within the next 2 years. I'm afraid they'll perceive me as "unprofessional" because of braces. In addition, I already look way younger than I am and I don't want it seem like I'm at the office as a part of a "bring your daughter to work day". I have a week to decide.

The treatment of lower and upper theeth costs 3900 € and I'd have to pay additional 20 € for each ceramic bracket (I'm considering having 6-8 on my upper front teeth). I'll be paying about 250 € per month for the next 16 months.
