New- Getting spacers tomorrow morning

#1 Post by jmrut22 »

Ok well here I am.
I am 35 yrs old and getting braces for the first time.
I have Class II Division I open bite.
18 months total time in braces (estimated). I also need lower jaw surgery, which Dr. estimates will take place in 12-14 months. I get my braces on (top and bottom) June 21rst. I think I am going with metal and 6 upper ceramics. Spacers go on tomorrow.

I was hit in the jaw when I was younger (accident) and my parents did not have money for the surgery then. But as it turns out I am glad. 25 years ago the surgery was w/o braces (in my case) and wired shut for 6-8 weeks. So I am glad it turned out like it did. Now that I am an adult I have many more options.

I hope to have some pics of my bite soon so I can track my progess.
I am nervous but so excited. My open bite will be gone forever. :D
Thinking of starting a journal here.

Congratulations on deciding to begin orthodontic treatment!

Spacers aren't too bad, although I've heard a lot of people mention that they are the worst part of the whole orthodontic process. I got mine on 7 days ago, and my teeth were only tender for a couple of days...and I had 8 put on in the top teeth!

I suggest taking some Tylenol a half hour or so before your appointment, it should help with any discomfort :)

Keeping a journal is also a great motivator for days when you're frustrated or regretting braces in the first place! Movement is very encouraging, document it!
