Braces Again!!!

#1 Post by mom22cutees »

I cannot believe it, but I am getting braces again after all these years. This is my worst childhood nightmare revisited. Unfortunately, with age all of my teeth are shifting back and my bite if off. This had to be done. had the spacers put in yesterday and had no pain until I woke up this morning. I feel like I should be eating my food through a straw. The braces get installed on June 21.

My daughter will be getting braces put on when I am done so I guess this will be good for me. I cannot complain about this or she will be terrified before hers are installed.

You would think that after two c-sections and I would be behaving better about this. Oh well, I am just looking forward to the day when I will have straight, white teeth.

Well tomorrow is the big day and I am not sure how I feel at this point. I have read about the awful taste of glue and am a bit apprehensive about that as well as the whole lip spreader thing. Oh well, this is my decision, no one elses. I will just get through it and be on my way to straight teeth.

I will post another message after the "installation" Wish me luck!!!

THE JOURNEY HAS BEGUN

#3 Post by mom22cutees »

Well, yesterday was the big day and the braces are on. I decided that I should make the most of this journey and enjoy it so I have chosen lavender ligatures -- my daughter is so excited about that. The orthodontist is actually located at my daughter's pediatric dentist's office so I got to watch spongebob during the process. It wasn't too bad. I didn't think the lip spreader was all that bad and as long as I didn't touch my tongue to anything the taste was no terrible. I think the taste of all the goop used for a crown prep is much, much worse.

Last night everything was a bit sensitive -- just some pressure. The teeth that are more crooked were worse than the others. This morning nothing really hurts at all. I am more bothered by the feeling of the hardware in my mouth. The doctor told me that by Friday a few frozen margaritas might work nicely -- of course, followed by a good brushing.

Further to brushing, that whole ordeal was about 20 minutes with all the extra brushing and flossing.

The best thing of all is that I need to lose about 50 pounds of post-baby weight and since the spacers went in last week I have already lost 6 1/2 pounds. That a nice start!!!

I will post more progress notes next week!!
