Thanks guys.

We are going with 3M Unitek all metal tops and bottoms. There is a little picture of the bracket in my avatar.

I think because we are in Chicago we might not have any delays if he needed something quick. Not sure on all the specifics about supply chain at the ortho but I think he has it handled. He treats a lot of adults so I think that because they generally want ceramic brackets he stocks more of them. He will just have to make an exception for me!

I thought the mold was one of the more interesting parts in the process. Seeing that life-size sculpture of my teeth was fascinating! I wonder if they'll let me have it when we're done? :)

Did you take any pictures for the before and after comparison? I think all of us probably wonder how it'll all look when it's done.

I would like my molds too---I mean, I paid $150 USD for 'em. :)

I had my X Rays done, another $210, and now I wait until 1/29 for final treatment planning.

Thanks for your posts.

Treatment Plan!!!!

#21 Post by Brunoise »

Had my treatment planning appointment with the ortho-----No surprises.
He says I have a straightforward case with no serious issues. I am to make an appointment today for lower brackets to be put on and "before pictures". He said we will start on the bottom as I have to have two extractions on top and we have "some work to do there". My molds were really cool. The most interesting part of the appt was learning that my canines were way ahead of where they should be and where they are supposed to be. Wow. who knew? :)

The second step will be the extractions on top with top braces put on the day after but not on my front top teeth. Those top front brackets won't go on until we get everything moved back a bit.

I also found out yesterday that my ortho only treats adults. His office is very busy, it is a bit like the pits at the Indy 500----three chairs and three folks zipping in and zipping out. His staff is quiet and professional. I feel very comfortable there and felt comfortable with how he answered my questions.

Still talking in the neighborhood of 18 months if all goes to plan, two years at the most. Almost there!!

Thanks, KK. Hopefully it will continue to be a positive experience. I am ready to start though however and just now got my date for lower brackets-----March 6 in the AM.

Plenty of time to stock up on crazy floss, salt, etc.

Just in case anyone is actually reading this, :) I moved my lower brackets appt to April 18.

I have a trip to London and Paris planned in the end of March and I just didn't feel like being a newbie bracket wearer on vacation.

My ortho was cool with it, after all whats a few more weeks at this point. So, April 18th is now the big day.

Hi Brunoise,
You must be so excited now that your b-day is getting closer and closer. I, too, am a braces newbie (my "b-day" was Feb 6 and I've posted some pics)... I wish I knew about this forum before I got my braces because I, too, would have insisted on Unitek brackets. Oh well, can't cry over spilled milk...
Anyway, good luck with your treatment and post those pics!

Tomorrow is the Big Day, Well, Half a Big Day

Tomorrow am, lower brackets!
Can't believe it is finally here. I have a nine am appt and then a full day of work so it should be interesting.
I will post pics as soon as I can.

Everything went great and now I have some new jewelry in my mouth. I was able to be in and out in an hour and after three hours, no rough spots or pain at all. My brackets seem really small --- I thought they would be bigger.

So far so good!
I will see if I can manage a couple pics this evening.

I can't believe its already been three weeks!

Can I say off the bat that I love my braces? LOL
So far no pain, I feel pressure sometimes, that's really all. Bottom teeth are moving into a straight line ----hope to have pics at some point. the one canine tooth that started off a lot lower than the other one is slowly coming up to level the other one. the tooth that was behind the others is almost in line. The best part is that my back molar that was tipping toward my tongue is leveling out. I am amazed!

Haven't used any wax or salt water, there has been no need so far. Flossing was a bit of a challenge but I am getting much faster. I go back on Wed, 5/16. Hopefully we will talk about upper extractions and upper brace date.

Just wanted to check in briefly----don't have easy access to internet at the moment.
