Hello Everyone!
45 years old and my braces went on today. I had them as a teenager, and boy have things changed! This time around I got to warn them I gag on impressions. The spacers drove me bonkers from pain and a desire to floss felt with religous furvor. (And I had to keep them in for 2 full weeks because a change in the date for my monthly presentation to the CEO meant a change in my appointment.)
But the braces themselves... gone were the "full metal jackets" that I had on all of my teeth as a kid. Just little stick-on clear pieces. So far this ain't too bad. We'll see how I feel in the morning when I wake up!

Thanks for the welcome! I can't actualy say that I remember if I had spacers on all my teeth, but I think I did. I remember that it hurt - a lot!
Day 2 is much more uncomfortable than Day 1. Not so much from achey teeth, but from the brackets on the tongue side of the 4 full metal bands that I have on the caps on my back teeth. After 5 meetings today, the sides of my tongue are raw from rubbing against them when I talk. Wax, here I come!
The good news is that almost no one in the meetings noticed my braces. Hmmm.. maybe they weren't paying any attention when I was talking!
I actually had a bout of pretty severe self-consciousness this morning when I was getting ready for work. I guess some part of my brain was getting ready for all the taunts and jeers of my youth. My sweetie husband said, "What are you worried that someone will say?" I said, "You know - metalmouth, braceface, that kind of thing." He said, "If they do tell them 'Scr*w off!" Made me laugh so hard I almost spit.
I may knock off work earlier than my usual 10 hours today. The good thing is that as an adult I can look forward to an "adult beverage" tonight to numb the pain a bit.
