My Braces, From Toronto

Hi,
I always thought about getting braces and so today I finally did at the age of 20..I've noticed one thing about people on this website and its that they moan and wine for no reason, that's excluding certain people...I have not felt too much pain with my braces mainly pressure, so for those of you deciding to get braces do not hold back. I think its important to have a nice smile. I decided to go with ceramic on my top teeth and at the moment they only did my top 8 teeth and my bottom metal with normal colours...I have not had any pain at all just trying to get used to them is the only hassle..once again for people considering braces or getting braces don't let the garbage horror stories on this site worry you...go for the healthy looking smile you want and I assure you that you will not regret it...thanks

Marc

How long have you had them for?
Why did you get braces?

I've had them for 2 days, as of today and still don't feel any pain at all...its minimal and even if I did I don't think I would moan :) I decided to get them because I have a gap on the top and the bottom are crooked...and I wanted a nice smile...

marc congratulations on getting your braces and kudos to you for not being in ANY pain thus far.
I would just like to point out to you that everyone's treatment is different, everyone's ortho is different and everyone has a different pain tolerance. I can't speak to why you are not experiencing any pain but I can only guess that it's because you have a very high tolerance for pain and that maybe your other decided to ease you into treatment with a training archwire and possibly no powerchains.

I also want to mention that when others post about themselves and what their treatment feels like I don't believe it is to scare anyone away I think it's to help others who have not gone through treatment yet have an idea of what to expect when they get banded.

Hey sunflr or whatever your name is, thanks for congrads, I guess you have a somewhat valid point but you should look at it logically do you think someone who is thinking of getting braces will want to get them because she or he read something painful or something wrong happened to someone?? If anything there going to put themselves in that position and say "oh that could be me"...I don't disagree with encouraging people to fix there smile but in the right manner...I don't wanna sound bad, but certain people make a big deal out of nothing. But like I said I can understand where they come from...as for my braces I have a proper wire, not a trainer wire and I'm yet to get powerchains at my first adjustment in 2 weeks...I just don't find the pain excrushiating and unbearable, I can just feel the improvement..I'm sure sometime soon ill feel pain and and when I do ill let you know...yes and your right everyone has different treatment and different orthos, one thing I was told is its much better to get braces when your younger cause teeth are still moving but when your an adult and your trying to move your adult teeth its much more painful...anyhow

Hi MarcTo, Thank you for your posting and your opinions. I see your point in not dwelling on the negative, but as a future brace wearer, I also find Sunfr7's reply in line. I want to know what I will be experiencing. It will help me to know that what is happening is normal and not to be alarmed should something come loose or the pain be extreme. I am 51, so the chances of my experiences with braces being more painful than yours is a likely posibility. Best wishes for a continued easy "Bracing".

This forum has been an incredible source of information during my braces journey. Not once have I considered anyone's experiences as "whining, moaning or garbage horror stories". Remember to expected the unexpected when you have braces. It is just as important to talk about the problems that occur than when everything is smooth sailing. Many threads talk about how braces have improved their lives. Forums exist for this reason.

marcTO, welcome to the forum and I hope your treatment continues to go well. Feel free to ask anything.

yea i guess but i just see alot of negativity, but i guess its for self improvement! Regardless expecting the unexpected doesent mean blow it out of proportion but hey if it helps people then why not...I see were your coming from but regardless im not going to argue...my treatment has been going smooth not alot i can go against..just really glad i chose to do this..

Uh... what's the point of backstabbing criticism of how other people post? You don't know what their mouths feel like. That's pretty rude, calling peoples' stories 'garbage'. At least confront them in their threads if you think they're bullsh*tting.
