Hey everyone, new to the braces world, sort of. I went to the ortho at 11 and they told parents that I needed them, and we never got them. Went at 16 with my Aunt and for the second time only got as far as records. Went again at 20 and records were done again and was told that I would have to have several thounds of dollars worth of surgery before I could even think about braces!!! I decided to just give up. Well, I moved to SC last year and went to an ortho down here back in May because looking at my wedding pictures was sooo painful for me because I didn't even smile for them being so embarrassed about my teeth. People see my wedding pics and tell me that I don't even look happy about getting married. Soooo, anyway, I went to an ortho down here in May and I now have spacers in (as of 2:00pm this afternoon) and am getting my braces on next Wed.
My daughter also has her consultation appt. next Wed (she will be 9 on Fri.) as I will NOT put her thru what I have gone thru over my teeth.
Anyway, I am Jenn, and I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing stories!!!!

G'day, Jenn, and welcome to this amazing board. You will find plenty of fellow travellers here.
My folks could afford treatment, but for some reason didn't think it worthwhile for any of their kids - all of whom needed it. I remember my mother raising the prospect of braces in my mid teens, more as a question than a statement. It was roundly rejected by yours truly (that was back in the days of full metal bands around every tooth).
By the time I hit 18 and my wisdom teeth had erupted, my bite had become a dog's breakfast. I saw an ortho at the time who said he could do blow all for me and that I'd be wearing falsies by the time I reached 40. Not a happy consult experience, I can tell you.
I agonised for a long, long time and finally took some positive steps this year. It's like a weight off my shoulders. I'm sure it will be for you too.
