HI, I'm new and realllly scared!! Please put my mind at ease

Hello everyone, I'm so glad I found this website and to know there are other adults out there with braces willing to talk about it. I guess my new lucky # is 27 because that is how old I am and that is when i am getting my braces on August 27! I wouldn't be so SCARED about it except the fact that at my consultaion yesterday my Orthodontist showed me my X-rays and I have an impacted upper canine (I already new this ofcourse and was aware of how to extract my impacted tooth) but what I just was imformed of was that my impacted canine was supposedly laying accross my roots of my front and lateral teeth!!! YIKES  my Orhto said there was a chance of loosing those two teeth with the treatment of removing my impacted tooth! He also said that if I may not be able to even save that canine tooth because how it is in there and they would give me an implant. Well needless to say I am now EXTREMLEY TERRIFIED!!!! I would really love some advice or any information from anyone out there that may understand this type of treatment and risk or who have maybe gone through it or is going through it themselves! I would soooo much appreciate it and maybe I could get some comfort knowing more about the issue. I was just in disbelief when he told me this so I didn't freak out until it processed through my mind when I arrived home. PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you KK :D
I will defenantly talk with them. WoW, I guess you understand how I feel. My Ortho said he wouldn't know what method of treatment he would have to use until the Oral Surgeon exposes the impacted canine and he tries to begin pulling it down. Then if it doesn't seem to buge or come in, he would remove it and I would get an implant. But he did say something about the roots to my other 2 teeth being not as strong or damaged (from my canine laying across them) something like that, but that it would still be strong enough to hold my front tooth in place. I was just confused I guess I shouldn't have left the office until I had a better grasp of it all! Silly me!! Thank you for replying, it does give me comfort to hear your story.

hello and welcome to the club,

KK brought up some good points. Make sure you discuss all of your concerns with the Oral Surgeon who will be doing the procedure. he may conclude something totally different from what the Orthodontists suggest, that is his specialty. Keep in mind what the ortho stated to you and make your final decision from what the oral surgeon recommends.

good luck and keep us updated!!
