Hi there!

I'm so happy to have found this board!
I'm 27 and will be getting braces on the 17th. I am nervous about the whole thing; the pain, how I'll look/feel with them on, and if/how it will affect my marriage.
I'm going with the damon3 brackets. I'll have to have 4 teeth extracted in about 3 months. Not looking forward to that at all since it took my wisdom teeth forever and a day to heal (I have really deep roots). But I'm sure it'll be okay. I'll be using the same oral surgeon because he was awesome.
Not sure how long my treatment time will be with the damon system, but with the metal or ceramic braces the estimated treatment time was about 2 to 2.5 years.
It has been suggested I need jaw surgery to correct my lower jaw, but I'm not doing it. I can't take that amount of time off from school and work, much less afford it.
Anyway, that's about it I guess. lol
Nice to be here!

Welcome CarolEEna!! I am too going to get braced this month. I am going to be getting InOvation Ceramic on top and InOvation metal on bottom. I will also be fitted with a Herbst Appliance. And to top it all, I may have to have my tonsils removed around the same time! I am too sharing the same fear and anticipation. I am 20 yrs old, and have a overbite that needs to be corrected. Welcome aboard!

Thanks KatieBug!
I asked about the InOvation and they said they could do them and would call me back with an estimate. They also mentioned another brand, sounded like 'N-View', but I haven't been able to find anything about it online; I don't know the correct spelling. Anyway, they're checking to see how much it would be price wise. I think I'd like that option better, aesthetically wise. I just hope it's not way more than the damons.
edited to add: I just found them. lol In-Vu. Anyone heard of them?

My total cost with the Herbst and brackets is going to be around $6500. I was only quoted this and accepted it because I like the small size and the self-ligating brackets. Let me know if you hear anything more about these types of braces. I am still trying to do my research!

How is it going?

Hi CarolEEna
How is it going? You have had the same braces as I am having, I was wondering what you thought of them. Do you have any pics? Hope it hasn't been very sore.
Have you seen any changes yet? Possibly a bit soon!
Hope you are doing ok,
Nik

2 weeks away! same as me then - I have 9th Feb as b.day
hope it all goes well for you, my last extractions were done this week and so I have a little wait before braces but don't mind.
I am hoping my damon 3s won't be too noticeable but I need something quite strong as I have such a wonky front tooth! I'll be posting more pics soon, give everyone a giggle lol
Let's hope our treatment time is over before we know it!

I’m sorry Katie! I didn’t see this post! My cost for the In-Ovation C brackets and TPA appliance is $6,650. About the same as you. I like the In-Ovation C brackets so far – but we’ve talked about this in another thread you started.

Hey Nik! I’m recovering from my extractions right now. But other than that, so far so good! I ended up getting the In-Ovation C brackets instead of the Damons. I like them so far, even though I don’t have anything to compare them to. I have pics in my journal. Here’s the link if you’re interested.

As far as soreness goes, I think I’m mostly sore from the spacers as I got them the same day. Also, I’m not fully wired yet, so I’m not sure how I’ll feel once I am. I’ll let you know though!
Haven’t seen any changes yet, but I feel that my top teeth are moving. Hopefully they are!
Keep me posted on your progress!

Hi socks!!! I know what you mean about being impatient! I just want to get this going! What kind of braces will you be getting; I know you said ceramic, but are they the traditional brackets or the self-ligating ones? Good luck with your treatment! Keep me posted!

That’s cool you and socks have the same b-day! I’ll be thinking of you both!

Thanks for your thoughts. I had my extractions done today, so I guess we’re recovering from our extractions together. How are you healing so far? How do you feel about the gaps in your mouth? I’m grossed out at the moment. Of course it’s only been a few hours since the extraction. I’m sure I’ll get used to them. Plus they won’t be there forever.
I’ve heard and read the damons aren’t too noticeable. So I think you’ll be happy with them.

I hope my In-Ovation C’s are strong enough for my lower teeth as I’ve got some major crowding down there. I guess now they have plenty of space to move, with the extractions I got today.
Yes, let’s hope our treatment time flies by!

Hi CarolEEna
Thanks for the link to the InnovationCs - I don't think I can change what I am having as my ortho only does plain big ceramics, full metal and damons. But a lot of people say the damon aren't too noticeable so here's hoping!
I felt a bit weird about the extraction gaps, especially when in new company but now I keep forgetting about them which might be a good thing. I am healing better this time with the penicillin, the first time I felt was slower (but I had a huge root on the one lower tooth on the first side - I felt all bruised on that jaw!) I'm hardly thinkin about the gaps at the moment so I guess you do get used to them CarolEEna! And they do close quickly - especially on top where they are more noticeable (to yourself anyway). My husband says you can't see the top gaps so I think we are more aware than others are!
Hope you are healing well and the spacers are ok. Post a pic when you are fully wired, I'll be back in two weeks showing off my braces too!

Have you read LadyJ's journal? She has the Damon brackets and recently got braced. She's got pictures in there.
I'm still recovering and in pain. Called my ortho to see if she can call in something different. Vicodin isn't doing the job and it makes me feel weird and I can't sleep. We'll see what she says. I'm sure I'll be healed up soon.
I'll post pics as soon as I'm fully braced. I'll look for your pics too!

Hello everyone

Just joined the Archwired site this evening. I am 49 and have had my braces on for 10 months now. They are due to come off on Feb. 11 but I am concerned because my doctor is not really an orthodontist and ever since she put power chains on me two months ago my teeth have gone from better to worse. They look crowded now and never were before. I mentioned this to her at my last vist and she said they were doing exactly what she wanted tham to do and would loosen after the braces came off. One of my top front teeth is turning out a little and I believe I looked better before the chains went on. Can anyone tell me if this is unusual or not? Should I expect any more straightening with the retainer? My fear is that now that I am almost finished paying her the $4,000. She wants to be through with me

Thanks, Francesca

Hope you are feeling a bit better CarolEEna, maybe the painkillers need to be upgraded to something stronger! I am not a fan of pain and am such a woos, hope I manage the braces journey ok.
Let us know how you get on. Hope you have some time to rest away from work (I'm taking time off for sure! The sort of job I have I have to be able to concentrate, otherwise I mess up my timesheet

)
I will go find LadyJ's journal now! Will soon be posting pics myself (b.day will come around so quick now and I am keen, yet dreading it lol!) I console myself with thinking people were looking at my wonky tooth before so when I have braces they'll just have something different to look at
