hi everyone! :D

i'm getting braces on tuesday. i'd love love loooove to correspond with anybody who has ceramic uppers and metal lowers ... just to see what i'm in for!

if you've got any advice, or interesting anecdotes, post 'em here or PM me (please  )

i'm 25, my name is kristy-lee, i'm australian, and i'm getting braces because i had a very vivid dream a year ago in which i had braces. when i woke up in the morning, my mouth felt weird without them. (i think i'd been watching too much ugly betty!)

when i told my brother, he said "that's weird! i had a dream that you had braces last night too!"

so i took it as a sign that it was time to fix my crowding. i had never considered braces before that dream. now i'm excited!

but it is funny how heaps of my girlfriends are spending $6thous on breast implants, while i'm spending the same amount on braces.......

I have ceramic upper and metal lower. Had the same combo last time I had braces, oh, 19 years ago. The technology is better this time. This time the brackets are clearer and there are more options for colored ligs! I always get pearl colored on the top and fun colors on the bottom...usually hot pink and black as I have goth tendencies. Don't get the clear ligs...it is said they stain really easily. Go for a light color or something opaque. like pearl. :)
Good Luck!!

Thanks Katiebug & gabi! I've had my braces for 2 weeks now! I LOVE them - does anyone else feel like they're an improvement upon their face, or is that a self-loathing thing to say?

My "birthday" was totally different to what I expected. When I first saw the braces I was HORRIFIED, it wasn't until I got home that I realised they weren't so bad.

I don't need to worry about ligatures because my braces are self-ligating, woohoo. I think that means I don't have to worry about staining at all :) Correct me if I'm wrong because I might eat too much naughty stuff.

The only thing that annoys me is having to cut up food into small pieces and having to brush my teeth a zillion times a day - I tried to stop snacking and just eat 3 meals but it seems impossible.

Other than that I have gracefully sacrificed the foods I cannot eat (pistachios, muesli bars, gooey chocolates) and embraced the foods I can (porridge, ice cream - both things I used to hate).
