Hi everyone

#1 Post by mazdagirl »

Well im getting braced tomorrow !

I am 35 years old and had jaw problems all my life. TMD is the worse! So after paying both my kids braces I decided to take the plunge.

My husband is behind me 100 %, my friends have said...Wow I didn`t even think your teeth are crooked ! and ...Wow you must be rich , everyone has braces !

No not rich just have to get these things done, I am excited and very anxious to get them on.

I should be taking before pics .. I`ll do that tonight.

Hey all, well just got my braces this morning ....about 3 hours ago. Not much pain yet just a weird feeling of not being able to bite down right. When does that go away?

Heh, i'm having the same problem, I think it's kind a numb feeling, probably from the tugging, i'm hoping my body will realize this is kinda a permanent feeling that will be here for a while and just get used to it and dull it out, usually thats how things work I think after the constant pain, your body just kinda "shuts that part off" or whatever, I dunno, feels weird, already cutting my cheeks :(

Hi Mazdagirl and OfficeJen,

After about a week that "numb" feeling will subside. I'm two weeks in and I barely even notice my braces. Chewing still feels a little weird since my teeth are shifting(yay!) and my bite is off but it doesn't take long to figure out how to chew. It's good to start chewing as soon as possible, even if it's a cool cloth or even a teething ring, because it helps the blood start flowing and your teeth to feel normal sooner.

Hope this helps!
Keep smilin'! :)
