Braced at 52

Am I the oldest out here?! I got braced 6 weeks ago and will be 52 next month. I finally realized I didn't have to spend the rest of my life hating my teeth. So far, so good. I'll be travelling in the UK and France in June and am feeling self-conscious ahead of time. I'm happy to read of people in the UK with braces. I lived there until 8 years ago and never met anyone over the age of 16 with braces. No doubt family and friends will give me a hard time. Anyway, I just want to say hello to everyone out there and learn how to use this site.

You came to the right place! Lots of helpful tips and moral support to be found here. You are definitely not the oldest person here, as I've seen posts from people in their 60's. I'm not much younger than you at age 48. I'm hoping to be done with braces before I hit the big 5-0.

I'm almost 30 and it wasn't such a problem. Don't worry, people are not so mean as we'd think. You'll do just fine in your travels and also have some amazing teeth in some months
