Hello :)

#1 Post by Jessiemae »

I've been lurking for a little while and decided to sign up. I've learned alot from this site, thanks! :D

I'm thirty years old and have had issues with my teeth as long as I can remember. I procrastinated for years about getting braces but have had it with my low self-confidence...it's time! I never had them on in childhood b/c they were unaffordable to a single mother with three girls, but now it's up to me, and I feel they are necessity. I have a severe overbite and crowding...I'm looking at 28 months or so in braces and lower jaw surgery...a lot of pain and expense ahead to be sure but I am ready finally.

I'm having issues though...I just had a root canal on #15 upper left back, and don't want to wait to get braces even though I need a perm. filling/crown. And I just had a filling on the tooth beside it; now it hurts a little, but I don't want to wait to get these things on and am wondering if my DDS can just work aound the brackets...:/

I'm just sooo impatient to get them on but want to do it right...

Nice to meet you all and it's good to know I'm not alone in my journey to a Hollywood-caliber smile :D

Welcome to ArchWired, Jessiemae! Is that your real name? It's beautiful! Congrats on starting the journey (kinda) you're going to find it's easier than you think and so worth it! I'm only a few days in, and it was rough at first, but I'm still so glad I did it! See ya around!

Hi Jessiemae! Welcome to AW!

Have you had a consult with an orthodontist yet? It's possible that the tooth that needs all the work won't need to have a bracket. In my case, I only have brackets on ten of my top front teeth (#4-13, if I have the numbering system right...). I had to have a root canal and crown on #14 after I had braces, and they worked around my braces. It worked out just fine. They have their ways to work around braces, including taking the necessary molds for the crown.

Your dentist and ortho can advise you on the best arrangement for getting all this stuff done. And your dentist will definitely have ways to work around the braces.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards a beautiful smile!

Thanks guys! :D I've had the records done (molds and pics) and am scheduled to get them on June 10th. I need to ask the ortho about the crown beforehand, I'm not even sure that tooth will have a bracket. Thanks for the encouragement:) +\+

Hi jessiemae, I'm new to this site too, after also lurking for a while! Sounds like we're both in a similar situation, although I have been in braces for a week now.

My orthodontist also thinks lower jaw surgery is in my future, but she did say we'll see how my teeth go before recommending it (I have both an overbite and overjet). The thought of surgery still gives me the willies though

Cheers,
