New to the board!

#1 Post by Candy »

Hi--Just wanted to say hello, I am on the countdown to getting my braces on in January. I wish I could do it today, but I have to wait for the 2008 Medical Flex Account to kick in. I have wanted to do this for 20 years, my parents never thought to do it, and then after I got married and had babies every 3 years, I couldn't possibly spend that money on myself. Now my youngest of 3 will start school next year and I have decided to make that jump. This means everything to me, I get teary every time I think about it finally happening. Willing to endure the pain and the Braces at 31 feeling!!! I had my eval done last month, will be getting metal lowers and ceramic uppers. Treatment time expected to be 18 months, bot I will bank on 2 years as to not get my hopes up. He says I am an easy fix and it won't take long, but we'll see. Thanks for all your stories, confirms to me that I am doing the right thing. Can't wait to feel whole and display my emotions the way that I feel inside.

Congratulations on your decision to get braces! The time to brace day will soon go by and then you will be on your way to having a great smile and teeth!
Good luck!

Hi--thank you for your support!! I'm sure I will have lots of questions over the next year. I watched my daughter take care of her braces so she was definitly inspiring! I figured if she can do it at age 8-10...heck, her mom sure can too! I can't wait to get my actual appointment date so I can mark down the days!!! I am ready!!!

Hi again----just checking in...I last posted in November and since then, I have been in braces for 17 days now! Ceramic uppers and metal lowers. The first week was horrible, pain, and not being able to eat. Week 2 was unbearable due to a nasty canker sore, and now, week 3, I am doing much better. Still not loving them, but I am truly appreciative that I have them, and love seeing the changes already. When I got them on, I came back her to find I was unable to post and share my excitement, and went to Braces review instead. I am glad to see whatever problems they had, has been fixed.

Hi Candy! Glad to hear things are going well. :) You and I are pretty close, schedule-wise - I just hit day 14 and have experienced much of the same thing. The sores are pretty painful, yet I feel it a pain to deal with using the wax all the time. It's got to be relatively smooth sailing from this point on, right?!?!

Cheers,

Thanks every one---It is definitly a journey and I take it day by day....I couldn't wait to get mine on, and I still love that have them but I am still so eager to have them come off next year. Seems like forever away!
Food is the biggest downer, hard to get excited about it anymore, still hard to chew gracefully and then to have to do all the food out afterwards!! such WORK! I guess good for cutting out my snacking habit though...just not worth it anymore--easy to say NO!!!
Good luck to every one!!!
