Newly braced! Hi All!

#1 Post by donutpuffs »

Hiya guys! My name is Diana. I am 22 years old and I got braced today! I'm super excited! I got the metal, Damon braces and so far I'm not experiencing any discomfort (rejoicing in this brief happiness)! I have big gaps/spacing and my treatment should be for approx 17 months, or less if I try my best ^^! I'm going to keep a blog and update it every month, maybe more if I have time!
wish me luck during this 16 month journey!

thank you so much for the warm welcome guys ^^!
Incase anyone is wondering:
~I got braces to fix my humongous gap in my two front teeth and spacing! My gap mega huge you can fit a Mack truck through there! My best friend always had urges to fit things through my gap =|!! However, I was never ashamed of my gap, it's hereditary, but the doctor told me as I get older, the gap will only widen more and my teeth will push out more...so I decided to take action and convince my parents to help me out!
~I have Damon metal braces top and bottom.
~No wisdom teeth extraction (because I didn't want to remove healthy teeth ;[, and because this doctor said it was not necessary).
~I have these hard things behind my 2 top canine (vampire) teeth, called turbo's that prevent me from biting down completely..let alone chewing =/, but they are the same color as my teeth which is kinda nice ;D...but the texture was not very smooth at first but I think it's smoothing out on its own for some reason, or maybe I'm getting use to it already lol =).
~The doctor did suggest that if the skin between my two front teeth is uncomfortable after the treatment is done, I can have the little piece of skin removed. (I think I'll want it removed when it's all done)

p.s. Oh man.. flossing is a trip....I was looking through my dental goody bag and couldn't find my threader. Turns out my mom saw a little white envelope but said she didn't see anything in it and threw it out!! =( yahh I fail without the threader, gonna have to get some more today!

looks like as though we both got braces for the same reason. i too have a gap between my two front teeth, which is also due to hereditary. my mom has it, her brother and sister has it, her mom had it. i guess you can say i am the first one going about it to close the gap.

i just recently got my braces put on, tuesday will start my 3rd week. i too also have the damon 3mx braces and according to my ortho should be in them for 18 months give or take a month. so far everything is going fine. first couple of days, my teeth were sensitive, but now things are a whole lot better. only thing that bothers me every now and again is that everytime i eat something i have to go brush my teeth, can't take any chances.

i'll try to put photos up to keep track of my progress. due back for my next adjustment in early july, 10 weeks from the official brace date.

Hi ayvecs and donutpuffs,
My gap is also hereditary although mine is larger (6mm) than other family members. As I have full lips you cannot really see it when I talk, only my bottom (also gappy teeth). I am 29 and have got used to smiling with my mouth closed, however I am now starting to think that I am going to look so different once I am braced and the gap starts to disappear. I get to see my post treatment moulds next week; I can’t begin to imagine what my teeth will look like.

Thank you, Cass!

Yeah ayvecs~ I was just about to search around on the forums and see if anyone else gets long time between their adjustment dates. I got my braces on the last Thursday on the 7th and she scheduled me 10 weeks later in July! I didn't say anything because I'll be going in earlier then that for a quick check up on June 1st anyway. (I'll be traveling to the Dominican Republic on June 3rd woohoo!)

asabea~ I know what you talking about, after a while I got really use to just smiling with my mouth closed. majority of my pictures have the closed mouth smile. It's become like a habit and I try doing it still with these braces still but it doesn't fell good, major ouch. So, I can't help but flash the metal! I'll be awaiting your brace day! ^^

Braces at 27. Gap/ Damon Braces

#9 Post by jrenee »

Hello!

I'm new also! i got my braces on three days ago. The pain has just stopped. Below are some before and after in the same day. I like doughnut have the damon braces. I have a gap in my teeth that I have hated forever. I am 27, I had braces when I was 15, my ortho did a crappy job. He didn't tell me about wearing the retainer for a year and forever once a night after that. But, I'm glad I have a second chance now bc my gap is not nearly as bad as it was back in the day, BUT I STILL HATE THE GAP!!!!! My new ortho said I would wear these for 1 and 1/2 to 2 years and will have a permanent retainer to keep the gaps closed. I had the frenectamy when I was younger. Won't have to have that again.

As you can see I have A LOT of gaps in between my teeth. I am so miserable!!! and I have an overbite on top of that.

How is it going with the turbo's on the backs of your canines? I'm getting my braces in a few weeks and will have those also because of a deep overbite. I'm worried about not being able to close my teeth at all and also worried about chipping my teeth on them. Have you been able to eat ok? I have a feeling my diet is going to completly change (which may not be so bad! LOL). Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

haha well i just got back from traveling! so sorry for the late late response when you see this hehe. my turbo's have been pretty good actually! and i can eat almost anything now. it's kinda funny how quick one adapts to these things haha. well for me atleast. i can chew with my molars so i'm pretty much enjoying alot. the only thing i know i cant eat definately is some crunchy bread (like pizza crusts) while i was traveling my mom decided to make home made bread, and the crust burnt a bit. I actually like hard crunchy crust and i decided to eat that and POP!. my last brace on my last molar popped off haha. so yah but otherwise, it's not that bad.

I havent chipped any teeth, but i feel like i may be putting too much pressure on the tooth directly underneath these turbos and thinking im grinding it down or something, but the ortho said im fine. i'll take his for for it lol. right now i have had my braces on for a month and turbos are barely touching my bottom teeth becuz of how my teeth are moving, so i'
m not sure how much longer i will have these babies on. i rather have them off though anyway thats for sure ;P

JUST GOT MY BRACES OFF YESTERDAY!!! I THINK WE STARTED AT THE SAME TIME 2 YEARS AGO. I HAD THE GAP ISSUE AS WELL. MY ORTHO PUT A PERMINANT RETAINER ON MY TOP 2 TEETH AND ON THE BOTTOM 6 TEETH. PLACE ASK FOR THIS TO BE DONE. WHEN I HAD BRACES 10 YEARS AGO, HE DID A CRAPPY JOB ON ME, BC I DIDNT KNOW WHAT QUESTIONS TO ASK. IT WAS SOOO WORTH THE MONEY AND THE METAL..
