Braces @ 28

#1 Post by Lori »

Hi everyone,

I am new to the site and just want to introduce myself.

I had an initial consultation with an orthodontist last week and will be going back tomorrow to get his final treatment recommendation. His educated guess at the time of the initial visit was that I would need 4 bicuspid extractions and traditional braces for 2 years. Without extractions, I may be a candidate for Invisalign for 2 years with the possibility of traditional braces towards the end.

I'm hoping to get started with treatment the week of Aug 10 as I am off work that week. I am absolutely terrified of what lies ahead for me. I have a very low tolerance for pain and severe anxiety so I am in for a rough ride. I've been reading your posts daily for 2 weeks and it's helping me prepare myself for what will happen. It's great to know that there are so many of you starting treatment at the same time as me.

Congratulations to everyone who decided to get braces for themselves! It is a terribly difficult decision that requires a great deal of strength and bravery. I hope I will be strong enough to go for it.

Good luck to all!

Lori

Welcome to the site.

I joined the site for the same reason. I'm 6 months ahead, back in March. However, I was sentenced to the same as you. However, I was unhappy with my profile because of the lip incompetence thing, so I went the 4 bicuspid extraction route with damon braces for about 2 years. I am hoping I get them off before I turn 30, but that may not happen. I can dream though right?
Braced since March 24, 2009. 4 - 1st Bicuspid Removal on March 27, 2009. In Damon 3s. 2nd time in braces to fix lip incompetence and rotated molars/crowding.

Hi Kallisandra!

Well, I found out that getting my bicuspids out would be the fastest and most effective way to correct my problematic teeth. I'm scheduled to be braced on Aug 13. Maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both have them off before we turn 30!
