Fully Braced now ~ I'm naked

#1 Post by ThisIsMary »

I'm getting braces put on for the first time on wednesday, the 23rd. I am terrified  . I've already gone through alot to get to this point but I don't know taht I'm ready for this. I'm 17 years old and made the decision to get braces about a month and a half ago. WHen I went for my consult the ortho told me I needed to get my teeth cleaned since I hadn't done in within the last 6 months. I went to get my cleaning and found out I had 3 cavities and all my wisdom teeth. The dentist then sent me to a facial surgeon to have my wisdom teeth cut out since they hadn't grow through yet. I had the teeth taken out and it wasn't as bad as i thought it may be. The thing that got to me the worst was having my cheeks swollen. As far as the pain was concerned it wasn't that bad. Then I got my fillings done and those were a pain in the butt. Now, I"m going on wednesday to get braces on. I'm getting the clear brackets and the tooth colored wire. I know i sound like a chicken but i'm afraid of the nasty tasting glue and the pain from it all and honestly, he fear of the unknown.

Mary, don't be afraid! If you can talk so nonchalantly about getting your impacted wisdom teeth removed, braces will be a walk in the park for you. The glue does taste gross, but there is not any pain at all. The only discomfort for me was when the ortho assistant put the archwire through the brackets. It wasn't really pain, just a feeling of discomfort. Afterwards your teeth might be tender for a day or two, but nothing too bad. Remember, you are 17 years old. The younger you are, the more resilient your gums and teeth are and the less pain you will feel. I am 19, and I have had my braces for about a month. I eat exactly the same things I used to and the only reason I know I have braces is every now and then one of my teeth will feel a little bit sore. But that is a good sign of progress. Hang in there, and lucky you for getting ceramics! (I have the plain metal ones)

Thanks for the encouragement! It really does help :) .

Tomorrow's the big day. I'll check back in with everyone afterwards to let you know how it went. I may try and post a picture too if I can figure it out.

Well, I'm leaving for my appt. in about an hour. I couldn't sleep last night becasue I"m so nervous. I know what's going to happen, I"m going to have made a huge deal out of it and then it's not gonna be anymore than a little discomfort. I'm honestly not nervous about the pain afterwards because I"ll know why it's hurting. ( I know that sounds weird but for some reason I can handle pain better if I know why it's hurting). After I get my braces on I'm going to the mall to get an Easter Dress and then I'll probable stop by work to show off my new smile. When I get home I"ll make sure and post and let you know how it went. Wish me luck.

Well, What do you think? I got my top ones on today and they haven't bothered me at all yet. To be honest, getting them on was nothing. Nothing hurt, I couldn't taste anything, and it only took about 20 mins. I guess it's official, I'VE BEEN BRACED.

Well, for some reason the pick went away, so here it is again.

As far as an update, I started getting a lil sore last night but when I woke up this morning most of the soreness was gone. AS far as my first adventure in flossing; everything went great. It didn't take me that long at all. Although it did hurt sometimes. I have a question. THis morning when I woke up I felt like I had something between my two front teeth so I check and nothing was there. Could I have this feeling because my teeth are already moving and the front tooth that's slightly turned inward could be moving? I don't know if they could move that fast or not.[/img]

Hi. :) I've been braced about 6 weeks. You can see my progress in the Adventures of a Stay at home mom thread. I don't have a lot of pain either... I have really bad crowding and about a day after I got my braces on I felt like there was something stuck between my front teeth. I believe it was the pressure that one tooth was putting on another because they were moving. The only way I can describe the feeling is like when you get a tiny strawberry seed stuck between your teeth. It's normal. :) Good luck... can't wait to see the picture. :)
