EXCITED ABOUT GETTING A STRAIGHT SMILE!

#1 Post by mdbo »

Always hated my teeth - very crooked! Getting a maxillary arch to widen the top of my mouth in one weeks time - currently have spacers in - difficult to eat at the moment. Not sure how long will have to widen my mouth for - Ortho said normally it is approx 3 months so I hope that it is no longer - I am ready to go! Then I will have metal braces with ceramics on the front teeth and wait up to two years to be straightened!! Embarrased, excited and scared. I am 33 so its now or never for me!

Hi mdbo
Good luck with your journey. I will be getting full metal braces on December 14th. I have mixed emotions as well. Im nervous, excited and anxious. I cant think about anything else. Luckily my classes just started so I can focus on something else for a while.

Have had the expander for one week now. There was no pain putting it in, and turning the key - once every second day - does not hurt - you can feel it move but it is only slight pressure. I feel a little bit of pressure on the cheekbones. The hardest thing is my tongue has been so sore - starting to get better now but will be another week or so. Eating is a challenge - swalling is hard and food gets caught everywhere. The worst is my speech. I have alot of saliva and still having trouble swallowing it down. I cannot say all words correctly because my tongue hits on the top of the appliance. Words like Green, King, anything with ING or EE sounds is hard/impossible for me to say - even thaNKYou is hard to say and those particular words are not getting any easier really so I may have to put up with that time entire time. The Ortho wants 5mm expansion. What are your orthos plans? How old are you?
