Hi Everyone :)

#1 Post by x2radialbomber »

Hey there everyone. My name is Amanda and I'm from Australia. I'm seventeen and currently finishing my end-of-high-school exams. :) Unluckily for me, I was told that I needed orthognathic surgery for both my upper and lower jaw. Not only that, I currently have a palatal expander for my top jaw, I will have some teeth extracted soon, and then braces... and then surgery. :P Oh! And then more braces. :P Apparently, my situation is quite complicated due to the nature of my jaw. (My jaw is definitely not straight and is on probably a 45-50 degree angle; the orthodontist couldn't even show me anyone who had a jaw like me) The only big thing I'm worried about is having the nature of my face change, but I hope it won't.

Anyway, nice to meet you all. :D

I am 34 and just had my maxillary arch expander placed today...you are so much better to get this done when you are young. My sister had an expander and 4 teeth extracted in her teens. she did not have any surgery though and i guess this come into the fact that the orthodontist said he had never seen a jaw like yours...my sisters looks great and would have looked a whole, whole lot worse had she not had the intervention. how are you eating with your expander in? I have a gap between it and the roof of the mouth and it feels like everything is going to get caught in it? are or were you the same/

Eating with the expander is quite annoying. Everything and anything gets stuck in it. I know this is going to sound disgusting, but once you start eating and have food stuck in it, the rest of the meal is alright because it doesn't just end up at the roof of your mouth... :P After every meal, I brush my teeth and the expander. And then I ask my mum or a family member to check if I have any food left... I have to drink so many litres of water too because my mouth is producing so much saliva. Do you have that problem?
