One month in braces and I'm finally posting

#1 Post by lilykitty »

So the title says a lot.

I just went in for my first adjustment after my bottom braces went on on October 10.

My name is B, and all my life I had been told that I have "beautiful" teeth despite being unhappy with my bottom two center teeth forming a 'V' shape because of a small jaw and overcrowding that was exasperated by my wisdoms before they were removed.

My braces journey started when I moved out of the States and south of the border to Mexico. I would have never considered braces while living in the States, but down here, it has proved to be more affordable. I went to a dentist after living here for a year who was concerned about the way that my front 4 teeth were crooked, she recommended getting braces for 4 months just to straighten out those teeth. The orthodontist in her office decided that my mouth was way too small and that I would have to get a full set of braces top and bottoms for 16 months and pull teeth, which was an "absolutely" no for me. After that I decided to go to a more reputable orthodontist, one that a lot of the kids in the rich kid school I work in go to. 2nd orthodontist, decided I didn't need teeth pulled, and that everything could be done in just over 10 months. I'm paying a lot more than the original orthodontist quoted me, but I also have the luxury of having a doctor who speaks English, as my Spanish is by far not perfect yet, and is certified by the American Orthodontic Association. All to the tune of about $2100.

So after a bit of running around I'm now braced! Except for one tooth on my bottom jaw which is just soo crooked that they need to make space for it before it can be attached to the wire. I had my teeth shaved today, and am looking at having a coil spring put in in December over the holidays to make space to straighten out my crooked tooth. Maybe that will help me avoid putting on the holiday pounds!

So far I'm loving it, noticed a lot of changes in my first month! So glad to find a forum that's filled with adults who are going through similar things that I'm going through!

I forgot to add that I do have braces on my uppers, but that's okay, as they are going to help an issue that I didn't like about my upper teeth!
