Hey!

#1 Post by Etta »

My name is Etta I'm 29 years old and I have a class III malocclusion underbite with overcrowding. I live near Newcastle Upon Tyne, Uk.

My treatment about to begin - It will involve upper arch extractions and fixed appliances to decompensate and correlate the arches prior to a bimaxillary osteotomy.

My next orthodontic appointment is tomorrow at 11.20 am where the final plans for my braces will be drawn up and in the following appointment they will be fitted - I will then officially have cyber-goth teeth...for 3 years, with surgery somewhere in the middle of that.

My very first consultation was with a private orthodontist in Gosforth over 2 years ago, due to my class III incisor relationship and class III skeletal base she was unable to help merely with Invisalign, which was much to my dismay. I was therefore referred to Newcastle Orthodontic Hospital and joined a very long queue of mainly under 16’s waiting for to have my teeth sorted. After lots of casts, x-rays, meetings, appointments and planning it’s finally my turn.

Hi Etta :D

Welcome to the Club. There are lots of nice people here to talk to about your experience. I see a lot of questions being answered as well. It sounds like your case is kind of involved (extractions, braces, surgery). It's such a patient process, isn't it? I'm starting my second time in braces, primarily for an underbite too. The first time I had all my wisdom teeth extracted. This time is more simple, and about 1 yr. So you'll have to wear your braces for 3 years? By the end you will probably be quite comfortable in them. My first time was 2-1/2 yrs. Do you know what kind of brackets you'll be getting yet?

I'll be by to visit...

Thank you for the warm welcome. This forum is amazing!

My appointment went well on Friday and i've been given a date to be braced on my bottom teeth, it's the 26th of Feb.

Good News: The orthodontist thinks it is most likely that i will only need surgery on my upper jaw rather than both, something about position and percentages or whatever. The surgeon will decide at the time though. The plan is I will have the braces on for two years, then surgery, then 6 months more of braces. My Jaw needs moved by 4mm which seems hardly worth it...all that surgery for 4mm!

I am reading this forum everyday and visiting people's blogs as a way of helping me mentally prepare for what is about to happen. I'm so happy to find this place.
