Okay sooo, I went to the dentist appt on Friday morning….. I was so excited to begin the process, until I got there…….

My appt was at 9:00am & I showed up by 8:50am by about 9:30 I was called & asked to wait in one of the X-Ray rooms. I had about 9 or 10 X-Rays taken after that I was asked to wait in the waiting room… By this time the waiting room was packed. So I sat there and waited, and waited, and waited, and I waited some more. Until finally I was called again by this time it was nearly 12:30... So the dentist looked at my X-Rays & at my teeth. He said that I needed to have a Root Canal done soon & that the ladies at the front desk would be able to reschedule me for that. And he walked out of the room. So I begin to think to myself all that waiting for nothing.
So I walked up to the desk & that lady begins to tell me that she knew I was also there for a cleaning but the dentist didn’t have time for it now since he was late that morning. And if I wanted a cleaning I needed to wait about 2 hrs because they were other patients in front of me. I didn’t want to wait because I had to pick up my son since my husband was working. So I decided to schedule an appt for the cleaning & root canal. So I scheduled it for this Friday after work. But as I was walking towards the door the lady at the front desk asked that I go back to the desk because she had to show me something. So I go back & I was presented with this paper for a proposed treatment plan for $517.20. I asked the lady what this was for & she said that it was a description sheet of the work that I needed done on my teeth. There are 9 items that are listed on the page & I explained to her that the dentist only said that I needed a root canal. Well at least I was under the impression that it was all the work I needed because that’s all he said to me was that I needed a root canal & walked out…. She explained to me that all the work couldn’t be done all in one day & that I had to schedule it for 3 different appt. So that means that I will have to be going up there every Friday for the next 3 weeks & would have to wait in the waiting room for a long time. I was very frustrated with them & really upset. I almost feel like calling them & telling them that I need a copy of my charts & x-rays so that I could go see someone else but if I do that I’m sure I would have to wait at least another 1 ½ weeks or even 2 weeks. I don’t know. I think I’m just going to go with my gut feeling & order my charts & x-rays & schedule with someone else.

What do you think??????[/b

Hey, it can't hurt to get a second opinion! I think if your gut tells you to you should, because if you just go ahead with the procedures and never get a second opinion then you'll always wonder! Good luck!

I think that would be a great idea to get a second opinion! Imagine how many hours you would be "waiting" if you have your braces on for 2 years! How long would you have to wait for an emergency appointment? If I have a pokey wire or something that hurts, I call my ortho in the morning, and can be seen on my way home from work. No waiting involved!

Yes, get a second opinion. They aren't the only game in town, and you'll feel better about yourself, having taken control of the situation. Good luck! :-)

I would definitely get a second opinion - a root canal and braces are two pretty involved things, and if you feel you're getting blown off I don't think that's a good sign. You're going to be seeing these people about monthly over a long period of time, so you'll want to feel comfortable and like you're being taken care of!

Personally, I wouldn't put up with that - it doesn't bode well for any ongoing long-term work.....you could spend half your life in the waiting room! I would definitely go somewhere else.

Wow your story makes me appreciate my ortho/dentist even more than I did before. If I have to wait 5 minutes that is very abnormal. If I have any issues (loose molar bands, brackets falling off) I call when they open in the morning and they fit me in within 10 minutes. I would definitely try to find someone that is more considerate of your time.
