Debracing date sometime soon, but problems...

#1 Post by Takako »

So I'm almost at my 2 year mark. My ortho is super happy with all of my progress, as my gaps are all closed (I had 4 premolars out) and my teeth are very straight at this point. In fact, aside from 2 issues, I'm ready to have these things off! However, those two issues are big ones.

One: None of my braces molars/premolars touch. My four farthest back molars were not braces, and they still touch. However, the braced molars and premolars don't touch. The space is visible from the outside and I can definitely feel it from the inside. I assume that this is going to be fixed with rubber bands, which I have yet to wear.

Two: On the right side, my remaining premolar is sipped rather severely inward. The pointy outward edge sticks right up in the valley of the premolar above. Sometimes after adjustments, the sole reason my mouth won't close is because of this one tooth! I've told my ortho about it several times. I mentioned it last in November, and she said we'd start working on it in December. Well, we didn't. She said "everything looks great!" and just put on more powerchain to close up my final gap. Which, by the way, is between wonky premolar and the canine next to it. What makes me so frustrated is that I can tell exactly why this tooth is crooked and why it has not straightened out. The bracket is too low, and it's forcing the tooth to be tipped inward.

I had a talk with my ortho at my last appointment. I'm going off to college in January, and it's about 5 hours away. I'd like to get one more adjustment in (and have this tooth dealt with) before I leave, so we said that if my gap is closed by the end of the month, I can come in and we'll work on more "finishing". Well, gap closed or not I'm going back in and I'm going to complain about wonky tooth and my gaps!!

Anyone been in this position? This isn't a minor cosmetic issue; this tooth is affecting my entire bite.

I guess I'll update to myself! Hi me from the past!

Wonky tooth is still wonky but you've decided it's not worth worrying about at the moment. The huge space is closed AGAIN and you're actually happy that you've let the powerchain do it's job and be PATIENT. You didn't go back to the ortho before going to college. OH and you got your nose pierced! Good idea that, although there's a bit of keloid scarring going on right now but it should go away soon. Wish I could tell you from two weeks ago that; BOY were you freaking out! Of course I'd have liked to have gone back to 4-weeks-ago you and stopped you from snagging the darned thing while shopping, since that's probably what caused the scarring in the first place.

Well anyway, just goes to show that time does solve most problems! Also, you hate math now. I know, I know. You think you love math. You don't. It is evil.

But your teeth look FABULOUS!

After a lot of money and a lot of time, I sure would ask the ortho about anything that your aren't comfortable with. Be sure you're satisfied BEFORE they take the braces OFF. I can relate, because I'm concerned with two months to go, before my de-bracing.
I ask about various things, every time I go in. My ortho isn't the most communicative. I picked this one because they were cheaper than the other one. I kind of wish I'd gone with the other one, because he was more vocal about the actual plan for my teeth. I like to know what's going on. Oh well,.....live and learn.

Yeah, to be honest I didn't shop around at all. I really like my ortho, but she isn't very forthcoming with information about my treatment. So I'll be bugging her again about this tooth! I've got a new issue now... the tooth right above it, same type, is also tipped inwards a little bit... but for some reason, the root is much more pronounced! I can literally feel the entire length of the root up the the very tip. It's all still underneath gum tissue... for now. My concern of course would be the root of the tooth poking out of the gum!! I can faintly feel the tip of the root on the same tooth on the other side of my mouth, so obviously as far as my body goes, *some* protrustion is normal. But this is definitely NOT. I can't go in until the beginning of March... kinda moved away from my ortho to go back to college heh. It doesn't seem to be a rapidly degenerating condition so I think it can wait.
