I got my braces a last Friday (my third time around this block!) and I can't believe the idiotic comments people are making about my braces! Co-workers saying moronic things like, "I like watching you try to talk - it's funny". I have a co-worker that sends me goofy pictures of girls with braces and writes, "ha, ha". She walks by my desk and either says, "metal mouth" or "brace face" and laughs. Someone today told me that it's great that I got braces because "it's cool to be nerdy". REALLY? These people are age 40 and up - are they for real??? Last time I checked, this wasn't the third grade!
Absolutely unreal.
I'm too old (read: mature) to let this stuff bother me, but I do want to say that it takes nerve to make the decision to wear braces as an adult. I'd at least like some respect for doing something "outside the box", but I'd settle for quiet support. Or being left alone!
In 6 months, I'll have perfect teeth...and they'll still be idiots.

@mavis Bullies don't stop when you ignore them, and this is bullying, and not okay. It's creating a hostile work environment, it's very unprofessional behaviour, and these people should be reprimanded by their supervisor at the very least.

How in the world is the OP supposed to focus on doing her job when people are interrupting her to mock her all the time?

Stuff them, you will be looking hotter than ever in a few months time! Maybe suggest a few of them get braces themselves, or to the seriously ugly: a nose job/ lipo!

Im sure it will wear thin in the next few weeks and the idiots will forget you are even wearing them. Its sad though, considering they are "adults". We proud of yourself. Im lucky that everyone around me is amazed that i am going through this whole braces/extractions saga at 26...going on 27.

Your coworkers are cretins, ignore or agree with them until there is an appropriate opportunity to use verbal word battle to deliver a clever insult of some sort.

Wow, how sad. I'm getting my braces on in a few days and I'm worried about this type of response. I know it's childish on their part, but it still hurts when people make comments like that. I say good for you for doing something to feel better about yourself!! Maybe they're jealous that they don't have the guts to do something like that to improve themselves. It will all be worth it when those braces come off and you have a dazzling smile!
