Three days into my treatment - Damon Clears

#1 Post by Chuck1026 »

Hello everyone!!!

I was told by my dentist for many years that I must get braces to fix my misalignment or else bad things will happen. I finally had a third consult and was told this time about the clear self-ligating Damons, no extractions and 20 months of treatment could help fix my smile and help me save my teeth, so I went for it!

It seems kind of strange doing at 44 what I should have had done at like 14, but better late than never! Besides, my wife is amazed how small and hidden the new braces are. She talks about her "railroad tracks", head gear, etc...

I am having a little difficulty chewing because I have an over bite and molar buildup to save the lower brackets, but I still managed to heat a smoked half chicken last night. It was DELICIOUS and I felt like I had walked on the moon - a huge accomplishment!

Now I am looking forward to watching my smile change! I will miss some foods for a while, but it is nice to know it should get easier with each passing day!

Congrats on starting your treatment! It sounds like you did much better with your molar buildups than I did when I got mine.. it took me a little while to get used to them and eating solids again.

Hopefully you won't have to deal with those for long!! You should be able to eat most foods, just might have to be a bit more careful with the braces..

Tonight I managed to eat fried haddock, onion rings (in small pieces) and cole slaw. I refuse to let braces keep me from enjoying food. I am very careful to NOT overload the brackets and archwires. No really crunchy or sticky stuff! Cleanup is definitely a lot of work, so I am not snacking anymore!

I hear ya about the not snacking. Way to much clean up and not worth it in the end!
Welcome to the brace club and best of luck in your treatment!
