Have been lurking on the orthognathic surgery boards for a few months. Just got my surgery date for July 2012 for LeFort 1 and BSSO. I am 40 y/o and this is my THIRD set of braces! I have head them for almost a year now. Was supposed to have this surgery as a teenager but my mother was too scared. Now, after years of self compensating for my overbite, the ligaments holding my jaw together are so stretched out that my joints are loose. Am hoping, but not guaranteed, that the surgery will help the problem. Even if it doesn't, I am tired of being so self-concious about my gummy smile and overbite and am eager to see the change. I am a married mother of two small children and am TERRIFIED of having surgery. I am also an RN so i know that my fears are caused by "knowing a little too much". Am looking forward to getting support from the members here.
Awh, hey I was supposed to have the surgery but all the oral surgeons I went to would not do anything for me because braces are the way to go. I don't mind. My parents were ok with me getting it too, they were scared but they weren't going to stop me, they wanted what was best for me. But I know what you mean about knowing too much. I am studying in school to become a Surgeon, and everytime I know I am having a surgery I know what kind it is and it freaks me out. Well I have surgery quite often, because kidneys are evil.
