Hi all,
Have had my braces on for 4 days now; Damon brackets, clear on top, metal on bottom. Scheduled to have them on for 14 months. So far, so good with the exception of being able to chew - they put the composite build-ups (nubs) so that my teeth wouldn't hit the brackets on the front...
Anyhow, looking forward to sharing my experience and learning from others!

Re: Braces at 35!
Good luck! I am in the process right now and I am 29 ( 30 in a couple of months). Right now I don't have any brackets in and am in an expander on my upper teeth. This thing is the most annoying thing! Scheduled to have one on the bottom as well. Speech is the most difficult thing, well, that and chewing. Praying for improvement on both soon! Ha! So far I am learning that wax will be my best friend over the next year!

I had mine put on four days ago too! Here we go together!

I'm 23, and have clear damons top and bottom, too! I've had mine a bit longer, but I just got the bottoms put on last Friday. Bite blocks are the worst... I've been eating nothing but soft things and smoothies.

Mulder: Did you bring enough ice cream to share with the rest of the class?
Scully: It's not ice cream... it's non-fat tofutti rice dreamsicle.
Mulder: Ugh... I bet the air in my mouth tastes better than that.

VioletJay, how's it going for you so far? I don't have any pain with the Damon brackets - just some sensitivity if I push on certain teeth...
Scully, I'm with ya - I'd like to lose about 10lbs, so I figure these bit blocks will be a big help. lol

I've already lost 5 lbs since Friday on the Ortho-Approved bite block diet! hahaha! I gained about 20 lbs in college, and have lost 10 since not eating junky cafeteria food every day (since graduation). Another 10-15 and I will be down to my high school weight! Sweet! I'm noticing with the blocks that I'm actually not hungry for everything I put on my plate. The only reason I cleaned my plate before was out of habit. I'm eating almost nothing, but I'm not hungry. I think I was eating more than I needed, and not even realizing it! I have been trying to eat healthy fats, veggies and protein, and stay off the soft carbs like mashed potatoes where I know I will go astray and overeat (I friggin love mashed potatoes). A normal day for me would be a protein smoothie with 1/4 cup whole milk and a few frozen strawberries, lunch would be greek yogurt with some eggs or fish, dinner is usually my indulgent meal. Last night I had tuna casserole with cooked vegetables on the side. I also eat cheerios, but I kindof have to mush them around and swallow them whole

Your 'diet' sounds like mine! I usually have a smoothie for breakfast (frozen banana, frozen strawberry, pineapple juice, frozen yogurt, coconut), followed by soup and a yogurt for lunch. Yesterday for dinner I managed a bbq'd chicken breast and some baked potato wedges. I'm finding that I'm compelled to brush my teeth right after eating, which stops me from snacking between meals or after 7pm...

Re: Braces at 35!
Good luck with it
It does get easier with the buildups (or bite blocks).. I've had mine for a year and after about a week or so, it gets back to relatively normal. As it is, I eat pretty much everything I used to... and the things I don't, it's mostly due to the pain of cleaning afterwards (i.e. beef jerky).
